For vehicles qualifying for the 7/70 warranty, as I understand it the 7/70 is only transferable to the second owner. For the third and subsequent owners, the 7/70 is converted back into the 3/36.

So, if owner 2 sells the car at 40,000 miles to owner 3, owner 3 isn't eligible for warranty claim since it is past 3/36k mi.

If owner 2 sells the car at 33,000 miles to owner 3, owner 3 is eligible for another 3k miles of coverage.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 2006MY vehicles were only 3/36k unless optional coverage was purchased. In this case, regardless of # of owners, warranty stop after 36k mi.

This is the language as I understood it from the supplied documentation, please correct me if you find something different.
I believe you are right, also if there was no form signed for the 7/70 being transferred and a fee paid then you do not have the 7/70 powertrain warranty.Look at your original paper work that you signed(and should have gotten copies of),if you signed it you will have(should) a copy of it already.

MrMopar is correct on the 7/70 not being transferred to owner #3, but TJKJ... I have no paper stating that I accepted OR declined the 7/70. I received nothing of the sort, b/c the selling dealer's finance wonk was too busy telling me that the car had NO WARRANTY AT ALL (bald faced BS) to get me to cough for a service contract. Yet another reason to distrust the sales team. I'm not owner #3, BTW. That is what Chrysler is trying to say NOW, but since I haven't sold the car to myself or anyone else... How could that number increment since I bought the car? I want proof of what they are saying, and they aren't interested in offering any.

The proof is in the pudding. For the owner who says they only paid a $25 fee, GO GET A VIP REPORT PRINTED. The fee is supposed to be $150, but I was never charged that, even after asking repeatedly.

Yea, I asked for a supervisor. I strongly suspect the people I was speaking with have a great career option as collection agents, based on the disrespect I was shown on the phone. I have already contacted my state attorney general, and will not be giving up on this. This is BS.

Everything the dealer has access to, I have seen. The customer disservice droids insist that I am the third owner, with ZERO proof offered, and even when they walked through all the screens with the service writer, he couldn't find ANYTHING that supported what they were saying. Simply, I have 2 different VIP reports printed, both with my name on them. One shows a 7/70 with lots of mileage remaining, the next shows a 3/36 expired for the same warranty.

It doesn't work like that. They are changing electronic data and simply saying "trust us" which doesn't wash.

Everyone I have shown that form to, has said I am correct and that Chrysler is pulling some stunt to get out of the warranty. This is complete crap that the CS droids have that much power and people basically have zero recourse. Most people would never have this level of documentation like I have. I'm VERY happy now that I have been an anal SOB about these printouts. It might be the only thing that gets me my money back.

Geordi,

I checked my checkbook register and you are correct. My personal recollection was wrong. I paid $150 to what was our local dealer in Lincoln, RI to transfer the 7/70 to us. We had purchased the rig from a used car dealer in Missouri who had bought the '05 CRD from a Honda dealer in Kansas, where it had apparently been traded in. (The VIP report even included a phone number for the original owner and I was able to actually speak with them!)

I had been informed of the 7/70 transfer procedure by our local dealer before I bought the vehicle.

So, technically, we may be considered the "fourth" owner. However, the VIP report at the time I requested the transfer, only listed the original "private" owner.

So, perhaps the number of "owners" on the VIP report is how DCJ decides whether they are going to offer a 7/70 transfer.

(I specifically looked for an '05 for two reasons. I wanted the 7/70 because it significantly lowers the price of the 7/100K ESP I planned to buy and it was the only year CRD that offered a true LSD in the rear.)

For what it is worth, when I bought my CRD, I was the second owner. I was going to transfer the warrantee but I refused and walked out when they would not put in writing just EXACTLY what the “Power Train” is.

It was crazy as they wouldn’t define it. Point blank would not answer me if the engine was part of the “Power Train” or not. I figured it was a total scam just to get my money, so I left. Haven’t been back since and now I have 83K on it. Guess I saved some money here.

My "understanding" (and of course, that holds zero legal weight with them) is that the powertrain involves everything to make the car GO.

So replacing my turbo would have been covered, as would the glow plugs and fuel temp sensor nonsense that I was trying to get fixed at Christmas when I found out about this warranty change. Not covered, would be the tire pressure monitoring system that has been glitched in the car for about 3 months now, complaining of a low pressure condition. None of the tires are low, but I think it doesn't like the spare's sensor.

But extended warranties that are administered by 3rd parties can be equally as evil. What it comes down to, is the joy of the insurance business: You give a lot of money to a large faceless company, for nothing whatsoever in return.

What a great country! I love just giving money away for a "service" that will invent new reasons to not fulfill their reason for my giving them the money in the first place.

i got pretty lucky with mine, it's one of the few that will allow you to replace with aftermarket upgrade parts where they cover the oem part price equivelent, you don't get to keep the money if it's cheeper through aftermarket though  they don't even care if you put in lift kits and what not

they make most of their money insuring vehicles that ride around on trailers and never actually get used

friend of mine that works at a body/frame shop back home gets alot of their business, said they ask very few questions and accept what the shop recommends 99% of the time

i really hate you've had such a rough time with your jeep and then have to deal with this mess

if i could win the lottery i'd hook you up in a heart beat :?
