Installed my Asfir skid plates today and looked closely at my torn CV boot and at my leaking sill on my transfer case. :banghead: :banghead: why is it always something.

Did my first oil change since I got the Liberty (5k miles @ 88k now). It was Nasty with soot and seemed thinner than what I put in (Rotella t6 5w40 and Mobil 1 M1-301 filter). I halfway think that the dealer (Carmax) I got it from didn't use the right oil.
I also took a good long look at the EHM i did just after I got the jeep 5k miles ago and it was nasty too. I used clear tubing so I could see if it became blocked and see how bad it was blowing by. Daily I see the fumes and smoke as I sit at traffic lights or in drive-through's so it definitely is blowing by. I don't know how much is too much or if there could be another cause. picture below of the tube

Major score at the local freight damage store!!

They have a stack of "Aeroturbine" mufflers all marked 70% off. Most of them were 3" in and dual 2.5" out- Yuck. So I dug through the pile and on the bottom I found a 3" in 3" out Stainless Steel marked $69. It rang up $20.77! :ROTFL:

I was worried that it would be too big...darn thing filled the shopping cart. I figured if it was too big I could sell it to a gearhead friend.

Turns out I had nuthin' to worry about:
:SOMBRERO:

Stock next to Aeroturbine.
An End shot:

Started the Jeep up with no muffler just to see how loud is would be. It was surprisingly quiet with just the turbo and cat doing the muffling. I rigged up a 2.5" to 3" adaptor for the cat to muffler connection and rigged a small turndown in front of the axle for now. I will need to find a local shop that can do the tailpipe in 3" for me.

Took it for a test drive; it was surprisingly quiet- these Aeroturbine's are essentially straight through like a glasspack, except it splits into two sides and then rejoins itself at the outlet. You can see right from one end to the other. Using my poorly tuned "butt dyno" the turbo seems to spool up and hit harder. I got on it a few times and was surprised at how quick it felt. (This may be due to the fact that I drive lice a lil old lady 99% of the time.) What I really noticed though was how much quieter this muffler is over the factory set up- that resonance that normally comes in harsh when pulling 1500-1600 rpm is gone. I can actually hear the wind and tires! Seems strange for a muffler that is advertised to give your car a nice "rumble sound". I'm hoping to see a small increase in mpg. Will report back.

Playing catch up ball on my 06 CRD. Read the Noob Guide yesterday and did the ORM last night. Plan on a fuel filter and MAP cleaning along with EHM tonight or tomorrow. I've run over 70k miles with no engine issues at all, but I have noticed a slowly deteriorating fuel economy and at $3.57/gallon decided to get proactive.

Just found Lost Jeeps and have to say "Great Site and Great Info for CRD owners!"

With 22,334 on the clock and getting about 19-20 mpg mixed with a very very very light foot tonight with nice weather I decided to do a quick clean of my MAP. I already have done the ORM and have the EHM so I thought maybe this would help. I really could not have found the MAP sensor on my own, it is really tucked in there. I did find it after a bit of Marco Polo. When I pulled it out it wasn't packed full out to the "cage" like in the noob guide but there was accumulation. I gave it a good spraying off with some gumout carb cleaner, let it dry, and stuck it back it. I couldn't tell a difference on power but we shall see on the mpg.

Pulled the battery and took down Napa for testing as SO couldn't get CRD started on Friday (was majorly cold). Battery checked out OK, so installed a custom 'tar paper' grill to stop so much snow being blown into engine compartment and hopefully keep a little more heat there.

Found 5w40 Rotella at WalMart for under 20 USD a gallon nice.

Replaced the thermostat today with the OEM version, then drove and checked temp gauge and the needle sits just to the left of the 12:00 mark.

While the hoses were off I had room to check the turbo for excessive play and there was none. Also checked for free movement of the vanes by using a vacuum pump connected to the vacuum actuator pump on the turbo and it moved freely, so all's good at the turbo side.

Removed the TCM for shipping to GDE for the TCM tune.

Changed the rear U-joint (two bearings on the old one were burnt to dust)

Installed the V6 air box finally (the snorkel was broken during shipping and I had to use JB weld to fix it)

Replaced the front right wheel bearing in the Sport. Could not tell how bad it was until it was removed, then you could feel it grinding while you spun it in your hand.

Pumped the oil out of the rear differential and pumped new Amsoil in, changed Amsoil and filter, add Fumoto valve, changed fuel filter, rotate tires and inspect brakes, still on original pads and rotors. All OK at 44K on the LTD.

Wound up changing both diff's fluid and the transfer case. Also changed the fuel filter. If it wasnt for this board I might have had the stealership do this... Now I know it's done and done right. Amazing how easy all of that work was. I was at half a beer when the fuel filter was chang was done. Someone said that it took a half hour. Still trying to decide if I want to do the EHM or not but next on the list are a set of hoses and an Eco tune... Just have to wait for the tax return.

Actually I did all of that work yesterday.. Today I went out and got the jeep all muddy :-)r I went fishing in the local mountains. Lots of snow, mud and water holes to throttle up through. Now to get the mud off of her. That stuff can really hide in places!!!!

Installed power leather seats last week, connected seat heaters day before yesterday, heated mirrors yesterday. Taking CRD to dealer to confirm thermostat failure(161-163F) so thermostat can be placed on back order.

Installed upgraded GPs and GCU. Word of caution: when ordering parts for this job, dont forget the gasket for the intake elbow.
