Torque Converter just went out. I almost lost it (and my life) on a cliffside corner on Hwy 1 when it decided to lock up both rear wheels at 55 mph. Happened again a couple miles later and then continued to repeat itself as I was attempting to get it to the dealership. It has been at the dealer 6 times to date for the initial problems and thanks to all of your postings, I knew it was the torque converter preparing to go out. Dealership, however, explained that they would only follow Chrysler Corporate's rules and Corporate wasn't allowing them to replace the converter. Instead dealership replaced transmission solenoid, then TCM, then called to tell me it was my aftermarket installation problem (twice) and then when the dealership service manager drove it and personally felt what a safety issue it was, has now looked at the postings and is befuddled why Corporate wasn't advising them of this problem.

Sorry to any of you who haven't experienced this yet, but my feeling is that you're in for a ride. A dangerous one. I am contacting NTSB and have already repeatedly contacted Chrysler Corporate. I LOVED this vehicle but after numerous stallings, 19 visits to the dealerhsip in the past 14 months (all warranty problems including EGR, repeated transmission and torque converter issues, and other random malfunctions), I don't want it back.

Please tell me where I can locate that petition and sign. And if you have other ideas or there are others advocating the recall of this vehicle, please make yourself known so I can add to your cause.

Here is my report number: 10170831.

Please take the time to write in yourself. It is best to have a joint effort. And this problem is outrageous. I can't believe they are selling this vehicle and have full blown knowledge of the danger but are not doing anything about it.

Shame on Daimler Chrysler...

When I protested and said I was not paying for a rotate and bal. because, a unbalanced wheel was not the issue. The did it anyhow gratis, but the buck is still there and increasing in intensitity.

So what does everyone think, should I file a report if it is just doing the shudder thing? Or is that a bit premature. I am tempted, but I think if/when this issue gets addressed they should find the reports are based on some solid information from people with definant problems. Is the shudder a problem? YES should it be reported? I dont know, that is why I am asking.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION F37

REPLACE TORQUE CONVERTER AND REPROGRAM THE ECM AND TCM

Dear: (Name)

Customer satisfaction is very important to DaimlerChrysler. Accordingly, we are recommending the
following service on some 2005 and 2006 model year Jeep® Liberty vehicles equipped with a 2.8l diesel
engine and an automatic transmission.

The problem is...

The transmission torque converter on your vehicle (VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
may fail. This can cause a rattling sound in the neutral or park positions and/or
illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Continued operation can result in
transmission damage.

What your dealer
will do...

DaimlerChrysler will repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). To do
this, your dealer will replace the torque converter and reprogram the engine and
transmission control modules. The repair involves a small reduction in engine torque
to enhance torque converter and transmission durability. The work will take about 5½
hours to complete. If testing indicates the transmission has been damaged, another
hour will be required. However, additional time may be necessary depending on how
dealer appointments are scheduled and processed.

What you must
do...

Simply contact your dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Ask the
dealer to hold the part for your vehicle or to order it before your appointment.
Remember to bring this letter with you to your dealer.

If you need help...

If you have questions or concerns which your dealer is unable to resolve, please contact
DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Please help us update our records, by filling out the attached prepaid postcard, if any of the conditions listed
on the card apply to you or your vehicle.

If you have already experienced this problem and have paid to have it repaired, you may send your original
receipts and/or other adequate proof of payment to the following address for reimbursement: DaimlerChrysler
P.O. Box 4639 Oak Ridge, TN 37831, Attention: Reimbursement.

We're sorry for any inconvenience, but we believe that this service will help to ensure your continuing
satisfaction with your vehicle. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
