Update---dealer and tire shop showed me many other Goodyear tires with the same condition. Tire shop wouldn't let me trade up, so I'm stuck with them---the Silent Armours are something like $750.00 for 4 and these POS SR's are around $650.00. They refer to the condition as a "dimple." I incorrectly ID'd it as a "bulge." Salesman followed up with me on Saturday---4 weeks after my inquiry.

Have seen a lot of "dimples" on Goodyear products over the years. My training is that it's a blemish, weakspot, or damage to the reinforcing fabric in the tire casing. Personally not a fan of Goodyear products, especially at the price/value they deliver. My experience is that a Goodyear casing will have issues long before the tread is gone. My Dakota pulled to the right since was new. Had it aligned twice and rotated tires several times (didn't fix the problem), bought new tires and it went away. Have a factory set of Goodyears on my Impala with belts thumping. There are plenty of quality tires for your CRD under $100/tire if you shop around.

Yeah, they told me the dimple is an effect of the manufacturing process. :?:

Yeah, poor quality control. How fitting that they end up on a CRD.

Once had a Goodyear OTR bus tire (315/80R22.5) with a dimple bulge the size and shape of an index finger running from the bead to the tread. Goodyear rep said to run it till it blows, then they will credit us for unused tread life (of course I would have to recover the scattered tread from the expressway for credit). That one became a sandbox really fast. Also switched to Firestone.

Not sure about other manufacturers, but our tire size seems a little rare. Little Mack will probably spend 95% of his time on paved roads so when it comes time to replace these lumpy POS, I won't be looking for Mumbo Jumbo Desert Dogs. I just put a set of Deltas on Wifey's Nissan Mallfinder and they seem like a decent tire (although not cheap).

Last time I was at Sam's Club, they had quite a few in our size. Only deal is they were all "LT", light truck, tires, in load range D and E.

One of the odd things about the CRD that has bugged me from day 1 is how the stock front tires look like they are going flat, even with 38psi. There is more casing balloon than tread face and virtually no shoulder. Given the weight and GVWR of the CRD, running LT's won't hurt anything.

For $500 I got BFG AT - KO's I will never buy Goodyears, For less than $650 you can have the best Michelin's .

Exactly. Matter of fact, it might help some. Ride quality might suffer some, but it might help fuel mileage just a smidge. Besides contact patch, rubber compound, and air pressure, one of the things that affects rolling resistance is sidewall flex. With LT tires at 60 to 80 psi, don't imagine there would be much flexing involved. Might ride like a buckboard wagon, but it would roll forever.

You might try this web site also. It's opiniion, but based on 100s of people and millions of miles of driving.

Did you go to an actual Goodyear store? I traded my tires the day after I bought the vehicle ..... told me they would do it as long as the tires had less than 500 miles. If the store you talked to said no, I'd check with another Goodyear store.
