Next year? I couldn't find anything about it for 2007. Did find some internet references that suggested it MIGHT be possible after 2008, though.

Hmmm.

I was aware that the H3 gets a new 3.7L I-5 Vortec but not a V8.

I cant find anything on the www.media.gm.com either.

It would be cool if it did get one! :D

I didn't want to name names as to not p!$$ any one off.

Technically they are not recalling any of them but maybe they are starting with people that already have had theirs in for transmission issues. If I was you and you still have warrantee left I would wait as long as possible to try one of their band-aid fixes.

The 2007 H3 is already out and has been for months. Next year (in 2007) when the 2008 model comes out it will have a V8 option. They are being driven all over the proving grounds right now. It is pretty much a Tahoe power train put in the smaller truck. It actually gets better milage with the V8 than the POS 5cyl was getting  I'm going to try to stick it out with the CRD but the H3 is looking real good.

I work with a woman who uses fj as daily driver. Her mpg is very low (15). However, if they put a diesel in the FJ......

FJ looks a little better every day. I bet Toyota would have a better time with the VM motor than DCX.

Man, if that happens, on an FJ, or PathFinder, I'm a former DC diesel customer. Especially if they use the new VM Panther engine, or better yet, their V6 diesel. With a decent tranny, it would be a great vehicle. I like my Liberty Jeeps, but a Toyota diesel SUV would have much less of a chance of spending 22 days in the dealership for repairs than my CRD, which already has so far, not counting the F31, F37 and balljoint recall.

I walked by an H3 yesterday in the parking lot - I never realized how sharp those things look up close - looks more like a Jeep than Jeep. If they had a VM V6 diesel, I would be taking a serious, CRD title deed in my pocket look. If Toyota, Nissan or GM launch a decent V6 diesel engine SUV, DC is back to selling MB diesel cars as far as I'm concerned.

I agree and disagree. I think that certainly we could probably expect better quality parts and reliability from a Toyota product, but the weak link is still the dealership techs. They are used to seeing all gassers, so training them and getting qualified diesel techs will be an issue in the short term. Heck, VW has been making diesels for a long time and it is still hit-and-miss on taking a TDI into a VW dealership. Some of them have qualified TDI techs and some of them don't know their ears from their arsh.

Nothing like a brand new product to get all the techs scratching their heads.

Toyota/Honda/GM techs won't have much more experience with light duty diesel vehicles than Jeep does - but based on past ownership experience, the Japanese vehicle is probably less likely to have major design flaws than what DC has been putting out lately. That's what I was referring to - a vehicle with better design and quality components on it. While DC does make some vehicles without these issues, Jeep does not appear to be among that group. Even the Dodge Nitro now has a tsb for torque converter issues - with a gasolene engine!

As a fellow TDI'er, I'm with NBS o this one...far more differences from dealer to dealer. I wrench my TDI since a) it's out of warranty, and b) I don't overly trust the local dealer...for big things on my TDI, I have an Indy that I trust far more than the local guys. If there were more VM's in North America, I'd be inclined to take them there for engine work...unfortunately, we're sort of stuck since it seems all the other components are the ones with the problem, not the R428 engine.

Does anyone make an aftermarket heavy duty TC for the 545, as are made for 47 and 48RE's for the Cummins?

Cheers,
Duey

My Torque Converter failed at 1300 miles, back in June. It was replaced with a new design. I have not had any (significant) shudder or other problems since. I have felt very minor shudder when excellerating quickly to about 55 then suddenly backing off but I rarely do this in normal driving. I usually take it to all the way to 64 and do not have any shudder. The dealer did not say much about the new TC, I don't think he knew much about it. He did say that DC wanted my old TC and flywheel for inspection.

Do you have a part number on the new TC from the paperwork?

Matt, mine shows "CECAF370" under FP number (whatever that is) and "CONVERTER 21-046-00" under 'description'. I don't see a classic DCX P########XX part number.

That's right off my recall service invoice, not sure that helps.

Cheers,
Duey

1). CECAF370 - Converter 21046004
2). CECAF371 - Pump 21129009

I got no part number for the new torque converter. It does seen to have a much higher stall speed than the original.

Most definitely, perhaps 300-400rpm higher or so, methinks. That 1500rpm APS unit is starting to sound really good!

I herd back today.

Quote:
Them:

Good morning Mike,

Rich contacted me and indicated that you should take your vehicle in for service, and indicate the conditions found that the torque converter needs replaced.

However, they also indicated that the warranty will be void with all of the additionals that you put on the vehicle, so remove them and nobody will know the difference. Then you can put them back on!

Me:
I am not ok with the current band-aid. There are plenty of people that have had the "F37 customer satisfaction recall" and are still having problems. The only "additional" on the vehicle are gauges and I am not sure how they would void the warrantee so if you could enlighten me I would appreciate it. I had hoped that DCX really had good intentions with wanting to fix my liberty but I guess I was wrong. Maybe the Ohio Attorney General will be willing to listen.

I added a boost guage and EGT but EGT isn't hooked up and there are no other mods.

Typical, at least they told you to remove them and then put them back on. In any event, I don't see how guages would do anything to void your warranty. They have to prove that said modifications caused the problem. I think what they are probably saying is that they don't want to troubleshoot it with modifications. I think a jeep by nature is going to be modified for trail use. Of course not everyone does modify them...but a good number do. Good luck and keep us updated on what you find out.
