Sorry, but I'll stick with the owners manual and their recommendations rather than a website that addressed the issue generically. Those of you running Shell Rotella T, are getting a Group III oil rather than a true synthetic. 30-60 seconds of cooldown ain't no big deal.

As a public service, please indicate if your turbo needs replacement, please post whether or not you did the cooldown. THis is the only way we can see if this is a myth or not for our vehicles.

If you do the ORM on the EGR, your turbo temps will be reduced considerably. I always install an EGT and Boost to see where the turbo is. Most coasting will reduce the temps into what I consider are acceptable. And the ORM reduced it 100-200 degrees and really allowed it to cool quickly. On a gas turbo I had, off the freeway at 70 to rest area, locked the car and left it running, when I came back it was just to the temp I usually shut it off at. My GT Turbo ran 1200-1300 on the freeway and it would take several minutes just to get it down
to 500. The CRD now runs 600-750 and on coast will cool to 400 within either a cost or on idle. With EGR connected, it will take some time to get to 500. Up to a couple of minutes in the summer.
