About the only thing that could make me consider trading in my CRD would be a Diesel Legacy Outback Wagon from Subaru in its second or third year after any gremlins in the powertrain had been worked out.

It would be trading off-road ability and towing for on-road handling and better mileage. My 1st car was a 90 Legacy Wagon; great car but the mileage left a bit to be desired.

IMHO if you are really into wheeling you're better off buying an old CJ/YJ/TJ/JK for weekend use. You can modify more for off road utility without having to worry about road manners & daily use. While we do ok with after market support the CJ/YJ/TJ/JK platform is in a league of its own.

what they said, I love the idea of transplanting this powertrain into a gladiator type rig when the libby body rots off, that or getting a wrecked CRD for that purpose. I too plan on the now toddler kids driving this rig.

Toyota MUST bring us a diesel pickup, cat powered or no, that would rule!

I will keep this CRD till biodieselectric hybrids are commonplace, then I'll run it on the weekends as the camping rig to flaunt my petro-guzzler!
till then, nearly 30 mpg and comfort and capability keep me grinning all day long. :D

Before the Liberty the last car I had was a 19 yr old Buick Century station wagon... I expect the Liberty to last as long. The cheapest car to own is the one that's already paid for even if there's something to fix on it every other month.

Maybe by the time the CRD dies there will be another small Jeep with a diesel in the lineup.

I purchased my '06 new and after 48,580 miles, I haven't used dime one of my extended warranty. My CRD sees alot of highway miles and is running great. How long will I keep it? I'll probably run it until 100k and then decide.

If Jeep came out with another diesel under $40k would I buy one? Maybe in a Liberty; definitely in a Wrangler!

Keeping my for many years to come.

No problems other than the recalls that were handled fine. I do have a valve tap that comes and goes.

If you really want diesel problems, go buy a 2003-07 6.0L Powerstroke.

Till the doors fall off. Then I'll get a lift and it'll be off road only.

2 1/2 years and 52k miles. One repair beyond maint (EGR-warranty) and a change out of those awful OEM tires. Happy with purchase, but who knows what will happen as the miles add up.

I had always hoped to keep it until the wheels fell off and now that there are options for the EGR failures it's a keeper. Without the resources of this group it would be a much more difficult decision. If I had to depend on the dealer for support I would probably be thinking of bailing about now. The idea of $1000 EGR valves every 18000 miles or no inspection sticker was the real issue. Although I haven't been inside the little VM yet I always expected it to be reliable.

My 1-year anniversary is coming up next week - I hope for many more! I've had VERY few issues (leaky torque converter & leaky rear-main, bad battery and bad window regulator) and I plan on driving my CRD until the wheels fall off!

There is NO other vehicle like it - roomy, maneuverable, torquey, FUN to drive - an excellent SUV with almost NO compromises for me at all! The only things I plan on really improving are the trans via Suncoast TC, and the lack of ground clearance with OME / Frankenlift. Oh, and the not-so-great factory stereo LOL Everything else I have done has just been personalization touches and the like .... and a few items to aid in longevity (like the ProVent and the CAT fuel filter conversion).

I am quite happy with my purchase even after a year! The CRD is a unique animal - and takes a unique owner!

Going to keep mine as long as possible. When or if half ton pickups start using diesel, will trade in our 03 Tahoe for one. Just got back from 800 mile roundtrip pulling a 4,000 lb. travel trailer to over 9800 feet altitude and back. Averaged 16 mpg. Pulled just fine. Then off-roaded some when got to our destination. Great all round vehicle.

Keeper. There is nothing available in its class that is diesel. And when there is one, it will have more garbage on the engine making me like the CRD even more.

My CRD has 16,000 miles on it and with the 27 average mpg I get I am very pleased with it. I plan to to it at least 250 k.

I was nervous when I first got it, but now feel it was a great buy. No other vehicle can get the mileage, and do the towing that the CRD can do.

I have the 85k warranty and the several times I have had to bring it in for service - 2 bad window regulators, I got my free rental.

I know the transmission will go someday and at 86k I plan to do the Suncoast.

Its really a shame to go to the Jeep dealer and see all the new gas vehicles. CRD's would really be great sellers, but with the buyout the investment will never be made and any new CRD the may build will have twice the emission controls and twice the problems of our Liberty CRD's.

I have a bad habit of trading vehicles off when they get 75000km on them but i think this one will be around a lot longer than that. In the shop right now for the lift and bumper  dont think i will want to part with that.

I have been thinking of the grand crd but the 50000 price is stopping me and the wife

I would consider this the most efficient, neat, and useful vehicle I could own (until I started reading about the probs). I will keep it until she is dead, knowing the tranny will likely go...maybe by then some one will have figured out a swap for a real tranny, SM465 for instance, with 3.55 differentials...I must be dreaming agian. Anyhow, the CRD is a great vehicle.

It's here until it winds up upside down at the bottom of a gully somewhere deep in the woods. after that it gets transplanted into a little pickup with a manual tranny, or maybe the worlds coolest sand rail.
