If I remember correctly, the valve stems are "pre-fractured" so that if the timing belt breaks you don't have a catastrophic failure. The "pre-fractured" term is not mine!! It's in the FSM somewhere.

This doesnt make sense to me...anyone care to explain why we would want pre-fractured valve stems? Seems to me a broken valve bouncing around inside your cylinder would be just as bad whether it was pre-fractured or not :?
