Just don't put the mothballs inside the passenger compartment. When I was in high school I was driving down the road and looked into the rear view mirror. Mr. Mouse was sitting on the top of the back seat of the Oldsmobile just watching me. I figured, "I'll get him!" The next day I put a box of mothballs in the trunk and drove to school. In sunlight the interior of the vehicle goes to around 140°F. This vaporizes mothballs. Driving home, even with all windows open the smell was sooooo strong I could barely see from the tears. Never saw Mr. Mouse again, don't know if he left or was mummified from the chemicals. Took two weeks to clear out the smell.
