My package has arrived, and I have found a gauge pod to use as well.

Here is the contents of the gauges:

Here is the overview of the car with the gauges in (not installed, just posing):

Slight problem with the gauge pod - it takes up half the window vent airflow!!

An alternative solution is to cut the corner of the gauge pod and move it forwards, and cut some off the back.

Image

Even more alternative, why not just drill holes in the gauge pod top and let the air pass through the gauge pod itself???

Ahhh, where to place that EGT thermocouple?!?!

If that's the vacuum-operated EGR valve pod seen there in the center, the valve could be removed and the casting drilled\tapped for the EGT sensor - can't really make it out, but EGT probe is usually 1/8" tubing, with 1/8" or 1/4"npt fitting, so that setup may limit your final destination - what brand are those very interesting guages - they have a manly look about them, unlike some of the girly-man offerings we get to choose from.

Correct. Vacuum operated EGR valve is the disc-shaped thing you can see beneath the boost hose.

I wouldn't be able to answer you on which fitting I got on the EGT probe. All I know is that it seems to be the probe itself which makes the thread, am I right? Those nut-alike things on the probe itself tells me I need to put a lot of force on the probe to mount it properly.

The gauges are Trisco gauges, they are AFAIK manufacturered in asia. They were $100 for the boost gauge, and $160 for the pyro gauge. The pod is a noname thingy from a local "we got race parts for cheap prices" a.k.a T-hansen a.k.a. cheap fragile stuff. Pod was $20 and if I can't make it fit I'll just buy another one, or maybe another type which mounts easier...

The pod has been attacked by saws, files and lots of elbow grease.

It looks better now:

Spacing for the window is now cleared enough to allow me to install:

I think of mounting it with black water-based silicone instead of fiddling around with drilling holes and putting in screws.

Those nut-like things might be a compression fitting which is what is normally used with EGT probes. It allows you to set the probe depth for your application. Try using two wrenches and backing one nut off the other. If it hasn't been over-tightened previously you should be able to easily slide the probe out of the fitting. You can then disassemble the fitting, install the lower piece on the jeep, and reassemble/install probe once the lower fitting is in place. Should not require a lot of force, take the fitting to the hardware store to identify the thread size, drill appropriate size hole, thread hole with appropriate size tap, screw in fitting using standard force. If you mount it on the downpipe rather than the manifold you might need to have a threaded bung installed on the downpipe first.

Here is a pic I took which shows a probe separate from the compression fitting. The compression fitting is threaded into a plate used in a different vehicle:

FYI - that's a 1/8" tube compression to 1/8"npt fitting - the cheaper versions have 1/8"on 1/4"npt fittings - to me, that 1/8"npt is the more professional-appearing install.

honey, you're correct. By inspecting the EGT probe I can see that by adjusting the rear nut I can change the depth of the probe after it has been installed.

I think my fitting is 1cm in width, the threaded area measures approx 1cm, which is ~2/5 inches... metric is what we call it :D
