Yes it is. B+ for battery positive, and fused because there's no fuse in the EVIC and they want to make sure you don't plug it directly to the battery

Thanks for confirming that for me :)

I'll have to check if the power on the B+ on the ODBII is really B+ or ignition switched...

Confirmed - pin 4 in the OBD-II datalink connector is always-on, not switched! So, we actually need a source for switched power. :)

Did you go and measure the voltage in the B+ plug?

Yes, there is 12V across pins 4 and 16 with the key out.

Excellent, now we just need to find a ignition switched output. I know where mine is, but I'm not sure you guys have that plug I was talking about...

Can you do me a favor and take a pic of where you found the ignition switched output and put it in my thread on the TECH forum?

Can that switched wire get listed/pictured and described here? I am hesitant to mess with random wires for fear of discharging my airbag. I really would appreciate the help with finding a switched wire.

One idea that I had... The evic plugs into the roof of the car where the lights are- is there a switched wire that is part of the lighting setup (up top) that we could splice into?

All airbag wires are covered with yellow plastic shielding to prevent that.

And no, there is not power already up at the EVIC, unless you only want the EVIC to work when you turn on the dome lights....or open the door. Both the courtesy light feeds are trigger by either the headlight stalk or the door switch.

If you look at page 2374 in the FSM you will see that pin 14 has a run-acc source, I would suggest tying in there as the fuse box is easy to get to.

Okay- i did it and it worked! (thanks sir sam!) I used the owner's manual fuse box diagram and a test light to determine which fuse/s were switched power. On my jeep it was a white wire with black stripe. Don't just grab that wire- I've read in other places that the wires can be different colors- I got a test light for $6 - totally worth the cost.

now my problem is that the compass doesnt read the right direction. I finished the install last night, and just this morning it started to say CAL next to the "N". Anyone who knows where I can find some info about how to calibrate or reset the unit, PM me. Thanks.

Would it be helpful for me to get a scan of the fusebox from the owner's manual and post it here?

To recap, we are trying to locate a SWITCHED wire source for the EVIC install.

Hey dw,

I believe to set the compass you have to go into a big emoyt lot and drive in circles after reseting.

If the compass is recalibrating just drive normally. After a few complete circles the compass should be spot on again.

Umm... Thanks for the compass info. and my apologies for the repeat post. I got the "posting failed, php error" message, but it looks like it really went through, every time. I dont know how to remove the duplicates. I emailed clint for help, but apparently his inbox is full. Anyone know how to get rid of those duplicate posts? Again... sorry.

Once someone has replied to a post it cannot be deleted, so if you accidentally double post, you can delete one, but if you accidentally triple post you can only delete one, the last one.

You could edit those duplicate posts though and remove the text so they were a little less cluttering of the main page. the edit button is at the top right by the quote button.

Also, I see you have the freedom edition, personally I have two 2000 Cherokee Freedom editions, always been a fan of the freedom package(in both the XJ and the KJ) as its kinda rare. What part of colorado are you in?

The compass calibration and zone setup are in the owner's manual, even if your Jeep didn't come with an EVIC.
