One other thought... might want to check and see if you have any kind of anti-freeze leak. Glycol will lure all sorts of animals in (and when they drink it it will kill them).

I tried that and that bas$#@% chipmunk or squirrel still kept gnawing at my deck...

Cat... meaner the better. Mine got rid of rabbits, chipmunks, mice, and moles... Even took an unsuccesful run at a racoon one night... bit off a piece of the vets lip, and sent my wife to the hospital with a scratched eye  .

While I'm not a "cat-person", the right cat can be the ultimate in rodent control.

Unfortunately, they can have a hard impact on the wild bird population too.

Moth balls should do the trick. The mice won't attack it for sure. I put moth balls in one of my cars that I left sitting for almost two years. Not one bit of animal destruction on the car. The moth ball smell wore off after a while, but it was better than rodent smell. (I put some moth balls in the car as well, not just under the hood).

I've got a neighbor cat that runs wild and sneaks into my backyard to kill wild birds around our feeders. Every time I see that cat I either sick the dog on it or squirt it with the garden hose. After two years, it hasn't gotten the message nor has crazy cat woman neighbor lady who owns it (and about 13 other feline vermin). I'm thinking the next step is a paint ball gun.

I second the mothball suggestion.

Pepper spray.... put pepper spray in your water bottle and squirt the kittie with that. It will not be back. Cats hate pepper juice. It gets on them and they have to lick it off and it burns their tongue and paws.

Be very careful with that. I saw a mouse running across the back seat when I was driving down the road one day. So I thought, "I'll fix him!" I put an entire box of mothballs in the trunk. The mistake was leaving the car out in the sun. The mothballs evaporated in one afternoon and the smell was sooooo baaaad I couldn't drive the car with the windows up for three weeks.

I don't know if the mouse escaped or was embalmed from the fumes...

For the Airstream in the winter I always use rodent poison.
For the wife's car, she totes grain for the critters, rodent poison in cubes.
We also use dogs, the cat is just about useless, but drags them in and lets them go in the house.
Beagles are rabbit dogs but they must be fenced in.
Terriers are relentless, great with kids, but you need room for them to run.

When I closed up the family cabin every year, I spread a bunch of dryer sheets everywhere. A couple of boxes does the trick to keep the squirrels and mice out and smells good when we open in the spring.

When I had my windshield replaced the guy showed me my cabin air screen, which was full of fur, insulation, and little twigs. Looked like a rats nest or something. Now my wife doesn't sneeze as much when I take her for a ride in the Jeep. :D
