Sam, if you were in Texas, I'd be tempted to offer you a correspondence job. I love your no BS attitude... -Todd

Thanks. Maybe one day I'll see how serious you were. I'm from texas originally, have most of my family there, and have always loved Austin.

Hehe. We have a specific plan for which way we'll tackle the installation. Once we get a little further involved, more info will follow. We are going to try to use an EGR motor though.

Wow that is significantly different than the KJ 05-06 application, look at the EGR location, FCV, dipstick.........I wonder what the other side of the engine looks like....

The only thing that looks similar to ours is the oil fill location.

Oh.....its the same engine(block) alright.....

Belt routing is similar, same common rail setup, same PCV vent, starter/AC/Alt in the same places.

Whats throwing me for a loop is the large round circular part of the timing belt cover, almost looks like the intake cam has some variable geometry/variable timing thing going on.......

Also looks like the IP might be on the right side of the engine.....see the fuel line running across the top of the engine?

And does this look like a double serpentine belt setup? I think I see TWO belts running around that engine.

it looks to me to be a drawing or computer gen thing ... i think the serp belts are a artistic error.

We have the R 428 CRD as opposed to the RA 428 CRD. It will have an aluminum block and different injectors (piezo). That is why it has more power...called the "panther". Just guessing from Mr Mopar64 comments in the past.

With the SEGR the EGR is a mute point anyway...and that gives us more power to boot.

Now that I look at it, it appears they are showing the belt route with and without A/C. But that still does not explain the second one coming off of the alternator.

Are you going to use the four speed or the five speed that's used in the liberty?

US CRDs all came with the 545RFE. It would be silly to try and mate the 42RE to the CRD engine, possible, but silly.

The picture in the engine is the RA428 Panther engine, but it is still iron block aluminum head config just like "current" R428/R2816 engine. The only thing those two engine share (other than maybe a couple sensors) is the 94 x 100 bore/stroke. It has an electrically controlled VGT that's much nicer than the KJ turbocharger, and will easily make well over 500 N-m of torque.

Uh oh, looks like a couple of Mercedes-type canister filters for oil and/or fuel mounted on that beast - far left above the outermost serpentine belt pulley, and far right beside the air intake.

Mercedes filter elements = $$$$$ when it comes time to change filters if there's no aftermarket source avaolable.

That's the biggest gripe from the trucking companies when it comes to the DD15 engine - the OEM canister filters for water, oil, and fuel. Daimler is sticking it to them at least on the fuel filters - $100 a pop for replacement elements.

One trucking company took matters in their own hands - they completely bypassed the factory fuel filters and installed their own Fleetguard setup, with filters that only cost them $10 each. Word is when the Daimler engineers came out to check how the engine was performing, they hit the roof and raised cane about it. One of the trucking company execs told them "It's not YOUR truck, it's OUR truck - WE paid for it. YOU are charging us $100 for YOUR filters. THESE filters cost us $10 each. Which darn filters do you THINK we're going to use?".

And apparently the bad blood didn't end there, it's been several months since I've seen any trucks for that particular company roll down the line.

Have you been looking for a CRD and are you doing the DieselToys installation?
When the body dies my MV will find a home for little Wranglers.
Which version for you?
