Air in the filter head is common and will shut you down like nothing else. A lift pump should have been part of the fuel system, and it's non-inclusion is the CRDs biggest weakness. VWs were designed to not use a tank lift pump, where the CRDs was designed in, but left out.

I was at the dealer today and lifted the hood of the new CRD Liberty /Cherokee.

I noticed that the fuel head was metal, looked like aluminum, no plunger so must have fuel pump, more plastic engine covers, CCV looked different from what i could see of it hidden away under under the plastic engine cover.

The CAC hoses looked different, same airbox.

Well i guess i caused enough of a broohaha at the delership today that they are doing everything they can ....AT THEIR EXPENSE TOO.... so i am a little less pissed at the moment. They have checked the fuel filter head and are positive that is not the problem. Today while testing the wires we found the #4 injector wire was Hotter than the other injector wires, so they are ordering one for me to test and see if that will solve the problem. if it does, they are going to reimburse me for the ECM and installl... darn rights that's the least they can do... i really hope this helps the problem.. being down to 1 car in this winter weather really sucks especially since it's an RX-8.. though that is still better than the Lightning would be...lol
Thanks for all the tips and advice guys... much appreciated...

Hey,
Hope your ride is doing better.
If you ever have any other ECM issues, try Auto Computer Exchange (in Florida). They rebuilt mine for my Toyota. $1200 from dealer, $300 from them. Of course you have to send it to them, but I sent on a Monday from The Big Island Hawaii and had it back on Thursday. I checked their site and Liberty was not listed but it's worth a call.
I've heard of an issue with the fuel line at the tank having an air leak because of the coupler they use. Some folks have nixed it and had fewer problems with air in fuel.
Good Luck!

Happy New Year!!! Well i thought i would post the update on my rig... After the new ECM didn't solve the rpoblem and the delership went good for it we figured out the problem. it was the #4 injector wire all along, it would short out when the engine got warm enough and put under load... replaced the wire a week ago, all i had to pay for was the part itself since i had spent over 500$ in diagnostics prior to this with them telling me it was definetly the "computer". So when that didn't fix it and i was not very impressed or nice with them they sucked it up and took care of me the way they should have... all in all i am very happy to have my Jeep back and its running great....

Cheers

That's a humdinger. But didn't you have trouble with two injectors?Image

Nope, it was always #4 injector that kept throwing the code (which escapes me at the moment). We swapped injectors 1 and 4 to see if we could duplicate the problem and at first could not, then after both injectors would still throw the code while in the #4 spot. I was very frustrated for about 2 weeks, spending the money to apparently fix my Jeep and have it give me these problems, it was almost enough to trade her in on a new Diesel Grand...lol..
So happy to have it back and running like a champ, we just got a huge dump of snow yesterday/last night and it was a blast comming to work this morning...
