H1's are IFS/IRS with "portal style" geared hubs.Strength is the issue as well is articulation, which the OEM IFS in any Jeep has neither and never will without $40,000+ put into it.

IFS is just fine, thank you. For those who want marginal strength gains, by all means convert to SFA. Most here are not hard core enough to climb rock walls, personally I either drive around or put on the ultimate off-road gear....boots.

Uhm..... NO.

Unless they can make it get 35mpg on the highway unloaded, I think I'll stick with my 2.8 CRD. Even with it now needing a turbo.

Let me rephrase myself:

I do like the looks of that truck, and would love to be able to own one. But I know for a fact that the care and feeding on that monster would kill me.

I’m a subscriber to 4-5 jeep/off-road magazines and 3 diesel magazines. Here lately, the word “JEEP” pops up in many discussions. I have concluded that Chrysler themselves really don’t know what will happen to Chrysler, let alone the Jeep brand. Chrysler has repeatedly said that Jeep has been one of their more profitable lines. I’m not sure if selling Jeep would be a wise decision for Chrysler unless if Chrysler plans to completely disintegrate and sell out. With the current downward economy, I think the automakers are going to need to make some serious decisions. I’m sure there will be a lot of merging, job cutting, product cuts, and a lot of open ended questions to follow. Scary, very scary…………….

I'll be honest, I didn't even know the CRD existed when I got my renny. Most of the trucks I worked on when I was a diesel mechanic were Internationals. They were typically the only trucks I didn't mind working on. You could atleast get parts for them, there was nothing like telling a customer that they were going to have to wait for 2 months to get their truck back due to the part having to be shipped from sweeden. I don't think International joining Jeep would be a bad thing, IH are fairly similar in overall construction to Jeeps to begin with. Find anything else out about this yet?

The way the economy is now, and the way auto manufacturers are suffering, strangely enough, diesels are selling like hot cakes.

Try to buy a VW Jetta TDI.

Why are auto makers so blind to the diesel craze? What is the government still promoting electric cars that have no range and ethanol that dries out seals and gets terrible mileage when biodiesel is clearly the better option and there is already a distribution system in place.

Just makes no freakin' sense. We can make biodiesel in the desert from algae....but corn to make ethanol take up a LOT of space.

A quick check of VW dealers near me shows around 50 TDIs on dealer lots.

I'll second that for Chrysler. I may work on hybrids, but I spend my money on diesels.

The whole IH thing is probably an April Fools.

SFA does not sell in the rest of the world, IFS is where it is at. Way more Jeeps are sold outside of the US than in it. This has been my biggest complaint with Jeep and the diesel option. America needs to quit asking for "special" vehicles and start buying what the rest of the world has to offer. They can start by getting rid of that stupid Acura name, no one else in the world uses it except the USA.

Hearing that only one mag source is saying this (IH buying Jeep), I am going to vote in the FAKE group. Publicity shot, April Fool's joke, or maybe they just couldn't think of anything for that month's issue. Whatever the reason, I don't see it happening.

I wonder what Fiat thinks of this?

I also am going to put it in the fake catagory. Without Jeep, the only real good vehicle left in the line is the Dodge Ram series. I can not picture anyone selling the star and keeping the Dogs. The whole Fiat alliance is interesting as there is no money or ownership....just an agreement which strikes me as more off a marketing move for the future......if there is a future.

The power of suggestion....

"Navistar International doesn't have a hair on the butt if they don't acquire Jeep in Q2 of 09. ...and deliver a SFA diesel wrangler to the US market by Q4."

After all some of the alternatives I've heard are downright grim! Renault or Tata motors... it would be hard to expect a NV2450R transfer case with the 2.72:1 low range and center locking differential coming from anyone on there design team.

I'd love to have a Tata. Their commercials rock.
