my absolute is 99.97% at .3 microns (but that's not automotive)
you might need to state who's setting your standard -
because the times I have looked it up - there was no industry standard.
ISO 4548-12
ISO 4548-12 English title: Methods of test for full-flow lubricating oil filters for internal
combustion engines — Part 12: Filtration efficiency using particle
counting, and contaminant retention capacity
It is not for testing air filters nor is it "Absolute" filtration. Here is a description of what the difference between nominal vs absolute means.
http://doultonusa.com/HTML%20pages/abso ... rating.htm An air filter related standard would be ASTM-1215-89.
BTW, if your air filter is letting 2 micron particles through, it sucks.
OK my bad for sighting the wrong info. This is whats used for air filters.
Use SAE J726 test protocol and employing a mixture of A2 Test Dust and carbon black to simulate on highway driving conditions, average initial efficiency is 98.2% and cumulative efficiency is 99.5%.
