I think I have got this issued fixed. A few days ago I was purging the air out of the filter head and noticed even afer fuel was coming out of the bleeder, it was still spitting a little air out, I had other things to do so I let it go for a few days. So I bleed the air off again yesterday, and it does the same thing. It just hapened that the sun was shining right down in the engine compartment. I am looking at the head, and I see fuel on the top lip of the filter. I reach down and try to turn the filter, it was very loose. I bet that all of that air being sucked in caused a low fuel condition during a high demend time which in turn cuased the limp mode.

I have to agree that limp mode can happen even without a CEL. Last winter my transmission somehow baked itself, it got so hot that it blued the steel of theTC. Before the transmission was finally replaced I had 5 or 6 limp modes without a single CEL.

Well how bout that? You never would have had that problem with a lift pump, as the leak would have been immediately apparent. Bet ya wish you had spent an hour installing one, rather than all the time you have spent on this headache. Image The stock fuel system sucks. In more ways than one.

I have a 2006 CRD with 33K on it. Never had any diesel related problems, and all regular maintenance has been kept up. Yesterday, I stopped to get gas for my mower, shut off the jeep for 5 minutes just to open the back door and window, (any way to defeat this safety crap??) When I was done, I started it up and drove away, I had to press the accelerator much further then ever. I was able to get high RPMs, but the jeep was still very slow. I pulled over and it idled very rough, I put it in park, hit the accelerator and it stalled. Turned the key all the way off, started it up, and did not get a single hiccup, and it ran fine. So I went home and cleaned the map sensor for the first time. In my opinion it seemed as if it were getting choked out by the EGR? What do you make of this? Also what would be the best engine scanner? ScanGauge, and is there a group deal on them here?

TIA Bob

Start with a lift pump and a GDS tune and life will be good:lol: If you've got a VAG-COM setup for your TDI it will work fine in the "generic obdii" mode. Scan guage works too but if you leave it hooked up it will stop responding in a few minutes of driving and possibly cause the tranny to act up. VAG-COM also stops responding. The data bus in our CRD's is a convoluted mess

Where is the lift pump on this, in the fuel tank? Or do you add an after market one to the frame? And what is a GDS?

Joe probably Meant GDE tune. There is no lift pump installed from the factory. You should probably start reading in the tech section to learn more about your CRD. Go here http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=98
