Yeah, they say he is the way, the truth, and the life.

I have a scanguage and the GDE tune, but I have the SEGR installed... otherwise I would report the data for you.

 whoops! Pablo, I'm guessing there is no easy way to undo the SEGR for a quick test?

If not, when I get back to AZ (with GDE and no SEGR), maybe we can run a test....

(My guess is that you just need something like a VAGCOM for DCJ that allows you to monitor individual parameters, such as EGR activity, and just drive around and watch it. At least, that's what I can do with VAGCOM and a VW/Audi.)

Dock.

Vag-Com works fine in it's "Generic OBDII" mode on our CRD's untill it locks up just like the scanguage does.

stoutdog,

SEGR comes with a bypass plug that returns all functions to stock. Your individual installation determines how easy or not it is to disconnect the box and install the bypass plug.

(I have a 7 year/100K factory extended warranty. I install the OEM ECU and the SEGR bypass plug, pull the fuse for the Cummins lift pump and reinstall the relay for the viscous heater before bringing the Jeep in for warranty work at the dealer.)

Very very good informational post. Thanks Doc for the hard work.

I have an IM, I like the power but I might go GDE for the extra MPG. It might just put me over 40 MPG on a road trip.

If I had wired to support the bypass plug there would be, but I did not.

I haven't removed my SEGR since I installed it about a month after I got the truck... And I managed to somehow lose the bypass plug. The dealers have never noticed or said anything. Might have something to do with the wiring being buried inside the harness covers, and the box being hidden against the body behind the dead-pedal cover panel. :D

Wait Doc fair is fair remember that the InMotion have two modes to choose from have you test the economy mode of InMotion.
After the TC replacement the InMotion is out of this world. :D :D :D

Nurse,

No, because IM told me (before I bought their "Stage II") that their "economy" tune only improves city, stop and go driving mileage. They went on to say it does not improve highway mileage over "Stage II" or increase power much. All in all, that made little sense unless all you drive in is endless LA traffic.

In any case, the dyno I have access to really only is usuable to determine peak power output and they are not setup with fuel flow measuremnt capability. You would need a "load" dyno to apply a constant amount of drag, pick a speed to maintain and then measure fuel flow to fairly measure economy on the dyno.

InMotion "Stage II" still makes more power than what GDE is currently offering, but when the "Euro" TC becomes available, GDE claims they will be able to increase their power levels while maintaining their remarkable current mileage figures if you don't use the extra power.

When and if this occurs, I plan to install the "Euro" TC and go back to the dyno. If you would like to provide ANY additional ECU at that time for me to include in "back to back" testing, I would be happy to.

BTW, GDE has the capability to take your VIN and injector codes and "clone" an ECU for you without having to have YOUR ECU there to copy.

InMotion did not have that capability when I purchased from them, but may have added it.

In any case, I tried really hard to be as unbiased and "fair" as possible. Sorry you don't feel that I was.

My hope is that that besides providing useful info to the community, there's always the possibility that healthy competition could result in even better offerings for our CRDs.

Ha ha. No, that post is not from the nurse. Notice the atrocious grammar and spelling. Nes ripped off my user name, but his style of posting should be immediately apparent, although his grasp of English has gotten much better since his original posts.

Doc, what if you have a Suncoast TC? Couldnt that handle the extra power GDE has talked about making available for the Euro TC?

I believe that the Euro TC has better springs that can handle more torque without the vib (shudder) issue that is still possible with the Suncoast TC.

Euro TC? Do you have part #s? I will be heading to Germany in August for a few weeks and might snag one while I am there. Along with some E-spec VW Jetta parts.

I have read about so many problems with Suncoast installs and with several reporting shudder problems with the IM "Stage II" ECU that I have decided to wait for GDE. The beauty of this is that they will ultimately deliver a fully engineered and developed system with an ECU mated to a specific TC. IM does not appear to be out there running test mules mile after mile making their ECU mate seemlessly with the Suncoast TC. However, that is what GDE has done with the OEM TC and intends to do with the "Euro" TC.

The Euro TC is the one from the Diesel JK with piezo injectors and much more power. It can easily handle the added power from the GDE or InMotion tunes. It will be a direct fit...does have the stronger springs so they don't collapse and cause the "shudder".

I actually think this is nurse's alter ego, with bad grammar and all - like the Stephen King story "Secret Window." The only "nes" connection I can come up with is Nintendo Entertainment System - which connotates their back and forthing as entertaining. . . 8) :o
