Wow, only 14" wheels? Do what you gotta I guess when stuck with wheels that small. I know on my trailer with the 15" wheels, it is getting harder and harder to find SUV weight tires. I'd have to look to see if they are LT rated (I don't think they are) but at a used tire shop... You get to rummage.
Yea, I'm running used shoes on the trailer, but they are within age limits that I set for myself and I know how to check for dryrot. I wouldn't do like some of the folks I saw and use them for daily driver use... But do what ya gotta. Am I wanting to pay $400 for 4 tires that will probably age-out before I get anywhere close to their mileage? Not really, not on a trailer.
I'll get 4 16" steel rims for it, and 4 more used SUV tires for less than what it would cost for just 2 new trailer tires. Can't argue with the economics, at least for a cargo trailer.
I wouldn't suggest this for everyone, unless they have the ability to properly evaluate the tires before getting them. I run used on my RV too... But they aren't "used up" like the trailer tires. I get them specifically from fire trucks, who change out a 100k mile tire after only like 25k (still has 80% of it's tread) due to their policies. $300 tire... $60 mounted. Your tax dollars... Holding my RV off the ground. Thanks!
