MrMopar: I did ask the service guy that and he was clueless. He said he could order the "f37 recall" parts and didn't know what he'd get. I can try the parts guy, he's very good.

Tinman,

Have him order the following part number: 68037142AA

This is the "euro" style TC with increase lock-up clutch spring capacity.

going thru same steps.
Dealer says I have to purchase 68037142AA.
Will only warranty the recall with the specified chrysler part number which is different than that.
C2CAF370 is the called for number in the system.
What is this compared to 68037142AA?
Are we just splitting hairs or is there a difference?
Want to do it one time.
Any help apreciated.
Anybody no more about internal differeces between the two?
Thanks all.

I talked to my parts guy who is very good. He said all he can do is order C2CAF370 which is the "kit" with several parts. He has no way of knowing what TC would be in the kit. He even said if he got the kit he may not be able to tell what TC is in it as sometimes they don't even have tags or stamped # on them. I figure D/C will us up all the old TCs first then start putting the euro converter in the kit. No way to tell what you get.

Ordered 68037142AA from moparpartsamerica.com by itself...then took it to the local AAMCO for installation. That's ALL they needed. No more shudder! Drives like a champ now! I'm happy!  :pepper:

Well, the TC was $191...but 2 weeks later when I ordered mine it had gone up to $286! :( So $286 + $35 for shipping + $500 for installation. I had them go ahead and change both filters in the transmission and got some fresh fluid and that set me back $140 more. But I don't plan on touching this tranny again as long as I own the Jeep.

I put my money where my mouth is and ordered a SunCoast.
Here is why:
1) Plan to tow up to 7,000 lb so I can haul my Antique Tractors.
2) Want the Pump fix (Step 2) for the front pump which is included in the newer Transgo Shift kits (Note 10/10/09 Copy Right Date on document){Sonnex also has a fix for the same valve in the front pump}.
Image
3) The front pump fix (Step 2) included in the newer Transgo kits has eliminated any and all shuddering with SunCoast converters. If your Transgo kit does not have the valve in Step 2, you do not have the front pump fix.
4) SunCoast steel billet back provides stronger mounting lugs, plus smooths out the engine by having more fly wheel mass. Now SunCoast owners, you know why the engine is smoother running.
5) Plan to go with SunCoast TCM reprogramming. SunCoast shipped out 4 Dodge Cummins reprogrammed TCMs when I was there. Ron Wolverton's son's Ram 1500 has been running for a year with a 545RFE that has been reprogrammed to run as a SIX SPEED. Bye Bye F37!!
6) Since I will have a strong Torque Converter, I will be able to have the TCM to be tuned to the optimum performance for a DIESEL ENGINE, not a patooie gasser. I want to have my converter locked at 1200 RPM and not have it unlatch at 1600 RPM.
Ron Wolverton ordered a J8/Euro Converter they are going to open up to see what it has inside. I will report what is found next week.
For those of you who want to beef up your Cummins to 800HP, Ron has a new clutch pack going into his truck this week that can handle the extra torque. This clutch pack will fit into a 545RFE as well, but I have no plans to go over 200 HP on mine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that our TCM is programmed differently and cannot be cracked in the same way as a Cummins TCM would be.... Otherwise, why haven't we all jumped on board with SunCoast's TCM tune?

Also, wouldn't 1200rpm lug the engine like crazy? Trying to keep her at 1600rpm feels bad enough, I can't imagine going another 400rpm lower before she downshifts... Could be wrong, though.

All that is needed to get the TCM cracked is a pre F37 TCM to copy and return. The reason the Cummins was done first is the fact that there are more of them on the road. More of the Cummins owners yelled and the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Up until now, most of us put up with it or hunted down a pre F37 TCM.
With the extra fly wheel mass of the Sonnex billet that SunCoast uses to build their converters, the RPM can be lowered. According to the HP/Torque Curves VM publishes, our engines can be run as low as 1,000 RPM with out lugging them, 1200 RPM would not be that unreasonable. I am sure our Fellow CRD owners across the pond don't rev the engine to 1600RMP and slip the clutch for fear of lugging the engine.

I called Transgo recently and spoke to the owner. I asked him if I should install the transmission pump fix that comes with the Transgo Kit if I have the new Revised OEM Transmission Pump installed. He said NO.

He said that the revision to the new OEM transmission pump fixes the Pump/TC Issues and that the Transgo pump fix is no longer required, and if installed may cause some problems.

But, I can install everything else that is included in the kit, providing that the transmission is running fine with no issues.

He said that I should work out all the Transmission issues prior to installing The Transgo Kit.

Well needless to say, After I installed the new Euro TC and New Oem Transmission pump, I nevr installed the transgo kit and sold the unopened box to the highest bidder.

The Transgo valve in the kit is an alternative to installing the new pump. Why would I shell out the extra money to buy the new pump, if I have the part in the Transgo kit to fix the old pump? I have stated that I had not installed the new pump.
If someone else has shelled out for the new pump or got it under warranty, the fix has been done.
Before Transgo and Sonnex came up with the front pump fix, the new pump was the only option.
Now there are THREE OPTIONS, not just ONE.
