Ye the dealers round here don't know anything about the jeep diesels, I bought it from a small dealership w a warranty and I just called the owner and gave him the information you all just gave me, I suggested the fuel filter and head, and also lift pump, and gave him the engine code It was throwing, it sucks for the dealer because I just bought it last week and it has a 3 month warranty or 3,000 miles, and I'm not driving it all now. And the problem comes back everytime I drive it, let it heat up, park it turn it off, let it cool down completely, go back out w it hours later and it dies before I even pull off my street, it has done it 2 days in a row.

A dirty fuel filter is a maintenance item and should not be covered by warranty. The dealer is not going to want to add an aftermarket lift pump either. Have you changed the filter yet yourself?

Stock systems don't have pumps - except for the injector CP3 combo at the front - was that replaced? it's a $1200+ combo.

a cheap inline filter - is a really good place to leak - most are made for pressure not vacuum

valve under the air intake??
any chance of photos?

dealer called me back a lil while ago, after i suggested a fuel filter head and filter and fuel pump he said they are not that expensive and that he was going to order all the parts today, asked me if i wanted to install or i could i bring all the way to him, offered to ship to my house, hopefully it fixes the problems. how much are lift pumps? a friend of mine just bought a aftermarket pump for his dodge cummins and told me he would give me his stock pump if i can use it since the stock unit was replaced right before he bought the truck, i have no clue if it would work.

Seems like you are going around in circles, been there, done that, have the T-shirt.
1. You do not know who has messed with what in 50+kmiles.
2. You need to get some miles on it to find out if anything else is wrong with it.
3. You need some time with a decent mechanic, someone to do some fiddliing maybe if you do not feel competent. Many times I did/do not feel competent.
4. With 10kmiles per year the fuel migh have poo in it. Chit grows in fuel you know?
5. Drain out the tank to check fuel color/clarity/water sinks. Siphon hoses are easier.
6. Follow the lines to the pump inch by inch. If you drained the tank you can strap it on a pump lift jack and lower it to check the tank connectors. Follow the lines to the filter inch by inch.
7. The connectors at the tank are funky, simple, if you break them, cut them off and put a c clamp on the ends.
8. Is the filter on tight, does it have a gasket? Have you closed the bleed valve? At 75kmiles the hose on mine near the filter head started leaking, I have an in tank pump so it was easy to find the leak, it dripped, you do not have that problem.
9. Get 'er done, get some miles on that baby, it really is quite a rig.
10. You are not alone, you are in good company and there are people without beer in Africa.

Take the pump.
I did the pump and it only takes one wire, already under the rear seat and a ground wire.
Look up in the archives or technical notes.
Ask your buddy to help.
Give him your old sending unit in exchange for the pump, they swap out.

Get rid of all the jimmy rigging and put a stock filter on it, and see how it goes. Prolly getting air from the lines you describe?

it has a stock filter on it, but they have an extra small inline filter that goes to one of the lines connected to the fuel water seperator, i wish i could figure out how to post pics on here

i checked out the inline cheap fuel filter, i dont think its stock, thinking of removing it because its mounted sideways which is supposed to be sitting upright, and it needs to be changed because one side of the filter is black colored and the side that doesnt get any fuel on it looks brand new, could be the cause of some of my problems im thinking, the hose fitting used on this inline filter were not very tight which prob. didnt help either, waiting til the engine cools down then doing another test run.

also my buddys lift pump is off a 2002 dodge cummins, not a common rate, does that make a difference? can i still use the pump?

Here is a post of the in tank installation viewtopic.php?f=98&t=37868

GMCTD helped me out a lot. I think his write up is in the CRD Technical Only viewtopic.php?f=98&t=24961

The part number for my lift pump was 5143160AA, $160 with shipping at Moparpartsamerica.com

You can't post pictures here, at least that I know of. You need to put them in your photo bucket account then link to them :SOMBRERO:

So in theory a 2002 cummins lift pump for a 24 valve should work for the crd, and yes it has a 34 gallon tank, my friend who is giving me the lift pump bought an air dog pump for his dodge, it pumps rediculous amounts of fuel per hour

Perhaps you should focus on replacing the fuel head and finding the leak.
How about a LITTLE air pressure on the tank to find the air leak?
Eliminate variables before you add the pump.....suggestion.....

o ye the fuel filter head is on order, along with the $115 fuel filter as well from dealership, place were i bought the jeep is paying for all the parts. and my friend is giving me his stock 2002 cummins lift pump as well. jeep wont even stay running now with out me priming it every minute, so it seems to me something is clogging the filter, if it was air getting in the fuel system somewere i dont the engine would die so quickly and i wouldnt have to prime it everytime to get it to run for a minute at a time, its like fuel filter and clogged and its starving for fuel.

Why didn't you just change the filter like I suggested days ago? Simple things first!

The fuel head comes with an installed filter.
the $115 fuel filter will come installed on a filter head.
(the parts diagram naming convention leaves something to be desired)

make sure you get the wiring tail - the new filter heads have a large heater plug

Oh yeah - a Wix 33647 will generally run about $25-30 - you should try that first.
