I would give Mahindra a chance. They have put a lot of miles on their test mules to make sure that everything functions well. So far, it appears that the Urea changes be free of charge during the warranty period. They have now added VW as another service center option.

The guy over the diesel technology division at Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep said the same thing, but when asked when, he didn‘t have a timeline. According to the magazine, we should see more diesels with the "New Chrysler".

Urea is added to a storage tank, and expelled out the exhaust, it is expendable not a changeable fluid.

Ok, but that will not be a deal breaker or maker. I hear it is like $28 for 2.5 gallons. On my Sprinter, it says if the DEF becomes contaminated it needs to be drain and tank cleaned. But you would pretty much have to contaminate it your self by watering it down, or putting the wrong fluid it the tank.

I don’t think anyone is asking you to buy it. But I do believe it’s a nice option for those who want a real truck (e.g., 7.5-foot long bed in the two-door configuration and a 5-foot bed in the 4-door). Mahindra has a nice warranty (4 year/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper including roadside assistance). You can’t beat the 30 mpg (city/highway combined). The 6 speed auto trany gives you more gears for towing. Plus, I like the 10,000 mile oil change intervals. I think it’s hard to compare the Liberty CRD with the Mahindra truck. The Mahindra also comes with a solid front axle and front/rear locker options.

From what I’m hearing, you will be able to buy Urea at NAPA and other AUTO stores for a few dollars per gallon. Mahindra is saying their fill will be a gallon or two per 10,000 miles, which is at the same interval as their scheduled oil change.

I've driven them in south africa my friend had one BIGGEST PEACE OF CARP rather buy an old ford, chevy or dodge then a new mahindra. this EPA certification is not good news.

You can get the DEF fluid at all the major truck stops now for around $10 for a 2.5 gallon jug. Once this stuff gets popular enough to put in all the other retail outlets, the price will start getting competitive and probably even sales on the stuff from time to time. Considering that presently a gallon of DEF will take approximately 300-500 miles to deplete in a 15L diesel grossing 80,000 lb, it would seem that it will probably be pretty darn cost effective in suv or pickup applications. I would like to see the total elimination of EGR as a way to control NOx and go exclusively to DEF with no EGR as the solution.

Fifteen years ago Hyundai cars were a crap shoot. One would go 200,000 miles and the next one would have a ring ridge at 30,000 miles. Then Hyundai made a choice to build a higher quality car and they did. I drive a lot of rental cars and I can say that Hyundai now has a quality car. Mahindra will need to make the same choice to build quality. Then, we will all see what choice they make.
I have no plans to replace my CRD, but to see another Diesel on the road is a plus and as good as giving the Long Bowman's Salute to a Prius with both hands.
