I usually remove the cover as well, i use a lube locker gasket, and I torque to 15 ft-lb I have a rock crusher diff cover.
When i fill, i attempt to get it to the factory fill level, witch is significantly below the fill hole on the rock crusher. I typically jack the trailer hitch up untill i can actually put a bottle neck into the fill hole at a 100 degree angle.

When I fill to the bottom of the rock crusher fill hole, my diff slobbers until the excess runs out. Anyone else use the "stock" fill level with the rock crusher?

If your lifted fill to the fill hole,it's raised for that very reason as your diff has been tilted and now the higher fill plug is in the correct place for the proper fill.Unlifted do not fill to a aftermarket cover's higher fill hole as then you will over fill it.

I have a cheap Facet lift (fuel) pump that I was not using for anything, so I retasked it to pumping diff fluid. I just clamp one positive wire to the battery and use a twist cap to connect it to the pump. When I want to run the pump, I put the negative on the rear diff and it does the work for me.

Last time, however, I wimped out and took it to the shop-- since I had other stuff I wanted them to do.

For refilling them, if you use Amsoil they sell a hand pump that fits their bottles and it comes with a couple feet of plastic tubing. It works perfectly for filling the diffs.

Thanks, I just went to Amsoil and bought

1. Product ID: G2576-EA (for removing the oil)
Product Name: Hand Pump
Attributes (if any):
Price: $15.00
Quantity: 1

2. Product ID: G2039-EA (for adding the oil)
Product Name: AMSOIL Hand Pump for Bottles
Attributes (if any):
Price: $9.95
Quantity: 1

The LTD is due for a diff change on the next oil change, and I don't want to deal with the mess of removing the cover. Most likely the diffs will out last that that wonderful engine we have under the hood, even if I never changed the diff fluids. :juggle:
