Well, finally got to it, before winter creeps in and rattles my bones by doing the slow-seizure number on my shocks :goink:

I replaced the OEM struts with KYB's (GR-2 in front, Gas-Adjust in rear), and took the opportunity to install a 1.5" Daystar lift kit as well. Now the Jeep stands almost 2" higher and will probably slightly get lower as lift and new shocks sits in... Love the look but now, it feels like I have a sudden craving for bigger wheels. D...n! I fear I opened a Pandora's box, and possibly my wallet even more :dizzy:

Since I had a budget in mind, I went the cheaper way, lift-wise. That should buy me at least a few years before I go for the "real thing"!

I have a few questions regarding the Daystar lift. I want to go with 235/85R16's Mud tires (32" diameter) for some added clearance and I'm wondering if this lift will accomodate these tires? Also, you said you went with this lift keeping the budget in mind. If money wasn't an issue, which lift would you have gone with? Thanks for the help.

@dc3655,

Your choice of tires means an additional 1.5" on the outer overall size of the tire (do I make sense here? :juggle: ), and while the clearance for the back wheels is not an issue, the front is another story. If you look directly at the front wheel from a side perspective, the rear side wheel well space can be managed, as the infamous pinch weld can be knocked back. But the tire may very well rub on the front side of the wheel well when steering, given the space I measured on mine, with lift and OEM size tires. I have about 3" of clearance with wheels standing straight and this might not prove enough for the size you are looking at, when steering left or right, as it comes naturally closer to the front side...

I understand the OME lift gives slightly more clearance, and this is the road I will take eventually. The Daystar's and KYB's are only buying time until I go for the real thing :rockon:

Hope this helps a bit in making a sound decision...

The Daystar should clear the 235/85/16's - I think bugnout is running those on a Daystar
and I had a Daystar front for a couple of years - OME is the same height -
(but the spring/shock action is better)

Thanks for the responses. So if I go with a 1.5" OME lift kit, you think that this will clear the 235/85R16's? Or will I need to go with a taller lift? I guess the more sensible thing would be to go with stock size mud tires. But the shocks seem pretty shot already as they bottom out on dirt roads and so if I have to replace them anyways, I figure I may as well lift it and go with some bigger tires in the process as I am due for new tires as well.
