Body Control Module. Within the menus of the DRBIII, are items such as the "wireless module" and "EVIC module" which have to do with their respective items. I don't know if I have the names right, it has been a long time since I messed with the DRB emulator program and I couldn't ever find a definitive location to mess with in there that made me want to bribe a dealer tech again.

The first time I tried it, I was unable to find anything in the menus that was obvious, and the tech had to get back to work. If you find something, please share.

OK! Thanks, geordi for stirring my interest enough to get back into this thread.

As it stands: 1) I do have access to a DRB III (not braggin', just sayin'). 2) I do have the three Homelink buttons on my EVIC. 3) I do have the premium aluminum wheels as I have an '05 Limited.

SO... It looks like the TPMS feature is a programming issue-i.e. something that can be turned on with the DRB III.

What points am I missing?

Thanks again for the insight ALL of you guys have given.

I had to buy three of the things to get one that had the TPMS function, and again, IIRC... Only the versions with "Homelink" and the three extra buttons have this. On the plus side, if it HAS the homelink buttons, the TPMS functionality is there also. You cannot get Homelink without the TPMS.

I have homelink, but only the dumb TPMS system.

Did you read this part of what he said?

This is the big one: I have the TPMS capable unit. The *FIRST* time it was powered up, it displayed the screen with the image of the vehicle, and 5 tire pressure locations with numbers. The screen then went away, and has not reappeared since. Someone told me several years ago when I was doing the install that it isn't the tire sensors (they are all the same) but it is within the BCM and the option coding that enables this functionality. It was suggested that a DRBIII scanner might be able to reprogram the options, I have been unsuccessful in locating a DRBIII scanner to make the attempt.

Yes I read that....my EVIC was installed at the factory, yet it does not show the individual tire pressures. If it is just a switch in the BCM requiring a DRBIII or a Starscan, I am suprised that no one else has noticed this yet. Maybe Keith at GDE knows the answer.

Over the years there has been at least one and maybe two flashes to the BCM. Your jeep's proper coding could have been overlooked on both. The first BCM flash I remember, F45 maybe, was in May or June of 06 for something being left on running down the battery. If I'm not mistaken the temperature gague recalibration was a BCM issue too.

Hoosier.

ALL 05 and 06 North American CRD's came with the same 16" aluminum wheels.

EVIC

The EVIC, or Electronic Vehicle Information Center, is the high resolution overhead console available in the Liberty. It can be differentiated from the low resolution OTIS by its white text laden buttons and separate menu button. There are three different EVICs available in the Liberty. The base version (56010520AD) features a compass, temperature readout, fuel statistics, and since 2005, a low drive tire and low spare tire notification. The mid-line version features everything available in the base model, plus three HomeLink garage opener buttons. The high-end version (56010527AD) features everything available in the base and mid models, plus individual tire PSI readouts.

EVIC installation involves cutting a console sized hole in the headliner, installing a hidden plastic mounting bracket, and running a small wiring harness. A Chrysler thermometer also needs to be installed to prevent a blank readout in the compass/temperature (C/T) selection.

In 2003, a cheaper EVIC that only gave the PSI readouts of the four driving tires was introduced. Since 2003, units can be switched from five readouts to four by programming a bit in the EVIC. In 2004 and earlier, the pressure sensors require training with a special magnet when the system was installed and whenever the tires were rotated. In 2005 and later, this is done automatically. While installing Grand Cherokee EVICs in Libertys is common practice, since 2005 it is no longer possible. The 2005 and later Grand Cherokees use the CAN bus while the Liberty uses the incompatible PCI Bus.

Assume details apply to all consecutive years otherwise noted in a later year.

Very nice... EXCEPT we do not have a CAN bus in our CRD - We are the exception on that one. I might be wrong about the 06 CRD, but the 05 is still using the PCI bus b/c that was the only way that they could get a separate TCM to talk to the ECM and make the thing go.

This is the list of computer modules as I am aware of them, and the locations if I know them.

ECM - Engine computer, engine bay driver's fender wall
TCM - Trans computer, opposite fender in the engine bay
ABS (maybe airbag) - Engine bay, under the battery and just forward. Really stupid mounting position, lots of wasted space.
BCM - Body Control Module (locks, radio, lights, sunroof, windows, seats, etc) - Somewhere under the dash.

There may also be separate computers for the airbags and possibly even more things I haven't thought of or discovered yet. This thing is a wiring nightmare. Now try to make all of those devices talk together politely, and you start to realize why adding a ScanGauge into the conversation can piss off the system and toss you out of overdrive.

Geordi.

In this thread
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=44475&hilit=can+data+bus
GMCTD wrote this about that :juggle:

The KJ CRD has way more than two computers on-line - problem is they're all CAN-compliant and functional, butcept for two: TCM and ABS are old pre-CAN technology, even pre-OBD2, back to 1989, still stuck in the J1850\J1941 era, which resulted in our "hybrid" system - not truly CAN, not truly OBD2 - SGII interferes with ABS module communications, causing multiple resets which also affect the TCM, as they share VSS data over the old buss, where ECM is looking for data on the CAN buss - resultant buss-contention when SGII is polling, ABS is polling, and TCM is polling causes the tremendous bang-shift to as low as 3rd gear, not even good at 75mph - same contention is why SGII stops reading preset parameters, requiring power-cycle to restore
