Tick? Rattle? Its not a gasser!..... :ROTFL:

Have you tried to smash your right foot through the floor after about 20 Mph?...then you'll hear a whoooooooosh :D ...a la le turbo.....

Seriously, if you have the money and don't mind getting some soot between your knuckles it is a very fun vehicle with lots of character. Read through this site occaisionaly and key in on what happens to whom at mileage near yours and you'll be just fine. At that price, you really can't lose. Who know's you may make excuses to take a drive...is that so bad?

I'm sorry for your loss but I would think that your Dad would appreciate your gain. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
Merry Christmas & Godspeed,
Boilermaker2

I did mash the gas a few times. I didn't hear a whoooooooosh. But it did get up and go nicely.

My mom passed a few years ago and my dad fell down his stairs and broke his hip after the funeral. It was the beginning of the end. I passed up my moms civic hybrid. But this jeep is more my style.

The Stealership wants it because they will make more on it. I worked as a salesman for a short time and it one of the tricks I used a lot. I would keep it if it were up to me.

Howdy rebar - Welcome to LOST - my condolences on the loss of your parents - even when you're older that still hurts.

For the CRD - the biggest failure from day one has been the lack of trained Tech's - the original Dealership techs got a 45 minute video - and if was a pure Jeep dealership - that was the only Diesel they ever saw - and they didn't see many so no one had any experience troubleshooting them. LOST has more experience than any dealership I seen or heard of.

If you're willing to work on it - they can be great and LOST is a really good resource.
if you want someone else to work on it - it can be really expensive and frustrating.

I don't make decisions based on what a salesman says.

I have gotten 33mpg on my 05 running < 60mph hwy I have the GDE turbo and I know that helps

33 was done on speedo calc from full tank to refill and not the computer

but most of the time it is just to much fun to feel the power :) which kills my MPG

I say you should buy it , also my wife saw one that color today and said she really liked that color

she drives our 06 CRD (Blue)

Hello rebar welcome to LOST. Alot of good information about the service, maintenance, and upgrades for the CRD is on this forum. Sorry for the loss of your father. 8K is a bargain for anyone, additionally a small price to pay for a keepsake like that which was purchased new by your dad!

The dealer which sold it to my dad and told me to walk away didn't even make a offer. Only one dealer out of the 5 the probate officer contacted made a offer on both of my dads vehicles. The other was a clean 24K 07 dodge 2500 with cummins turbo diesel 6 speed for $21K.

I feel comfortable installing the mods I read about on Sam's CRD Noob Guide even though my time is limited. But how do I go about finding a good diesel mechanic in Iowa City if I really need one, or want a second opinion on the condition of my CRD? I asked a buddy of mine who runs diesels, but he could only recommend the stealerships and a few diesel truck high performance outfits over 45 minutes north of me who probably haven't worked on a CRD.

The best source of knowledge and techs are the members of this board, bar none. Someone here is nearby, and all of us are happy to help. If you have any issue, usually just describing the symptoms is enough that we can nail the solution.

2 door. Rides like a lumber wagon unless you have the fifth wheel on it . But it hauls booty. 16 mpg

FYI - to find a good diesel mechanic - start with dealerships that sell/service Cummins and Sprinter vans.

also as to the price - if you can find the price guides that list CRD's (and some don't) - they're normally a $2000 premium to the V6 in the same condition.

on the lack of training for techs - it hurt a lot of dealerships too - if they actually cared about their customers and/or reputation (not a given) then they got frustrated with the failure to solve problems too - so some dealership would have preferred not to deal with CRD's at all (again a lot of the really good ones - carried Cummins/Sprinter so the CRD really wasn't an issue)

I had to go to a cummins and sprinter van dealership before I even found a dealer that had seen one. So just go on line and search but most of your problems can be handled right here on line. Take a video post a picture or describe a problem we have seen and dealt with them all. From the random lights coming on to a lighting strike and even a few full rebuilds.

P.S. Supposedly the only way to get a 5 star rating at a dealer ship is to have atleast one diesel mechanic on hand.

I don't believe that. One of the supposed "five star" dealerships is no longer a Mopar dealer here in Savannah, and they didn't have a diesel tech. That was also the place that tried to inform me that there was "something seriously wrong with my engine" based on the rattling it was making while I drove in. The sales droid who told me that was rather surprised to hear that it was a diesel and SUPPOSED to sound like that. Even more surprised that it was sold like that from the factory. Morons.

The dealership in Jacksonville supposedly had "several" diesel techs... Yet they didn't have anyone capable of proper diagnostics on a transmission and transfer case failure? Oh wait... They were neither a five-star dealer, nor interested in anything other than the depth of my wallet. If it couldn't be determined visually without so much as touching a wrench to the vehicle... They weren't interested in doing it. But they would happily charge $360 for looking.

The lesson here: Avoid ALL Chrysler dealerships. Not a dang one is worth the risk of bringing your truck there. Find your local Bosch diesel injector service shop (They will specialize in injectors and pumps and NOT do remove / replace type work) and ask them who is the best in your area for CP3 pump work. Go to that place if you need something. At least they will know what a diesel is supposed to sound like.

My first thought too.
I get a call every year from the dealership where I bought the truck. Salesmen always tell me they want first dibs on the truck if I ever want to sell it.
Amazing really, 6 year old trucks still in demand.

Get rid of the EGR by using GDE or SEGR
Install Provent to clear up the turbo
Replace Xerex G5 with same but new
Replace Red Top with Sears Platinum
Replace fuel filter new Wix
Use Turbo Diesel syn motor oil

Forgot to mention...

If temp needle is hanging out to the left of center, then replace the thermostat. Many threads here on the topic.
