Checked fuses, no problems there. I know I need to address the dash warning light issue and will do that if and when I get it on the road again. Still can't come to grips with the crank sensor being the issue because I have not been able to get it to fire since it crapped out the other day. Everyone with that issue seems to get their outfit to start eventually, mine won't fire at all. I have removed the fuel filter head and am waiting for the new one to arrive before I can try anything further.

Pump the plunger a few and that is all you would need to get it to fire. not being able to stay lit would indicate the fuel head...

The fuel head is not the problem.

Check the relays for a possible bad one. Write down their existing positions and swap them, put them back in their original position after test.

I installed the new fuel head and attempted to start it. It acted as if it wanted to fire but failed. I put the charger on it for tonight and will start checking relays in the morning. Will post findings tomorrow. Thanks

Racer may be right. If you have just changed the filter and if you suspect a leak, the likelihood of an air bubble is very high. It is a sickening feeling. I've done it ~3x's in 160k miles. If you hear air wheezing after plunging, you may want to check for leaks. If it is at the old heater element in the head, replace it. IMHO, a timing problem would have been self-evident quickly.

Well ~ it's back to the drawing board, the shop can't get to it for 2 weeks. I went out and tried it again this morning and after bleeding the fuel filter head it tried to fire but wouldn't quite do it. I am wondering if the fuel pump failed. I don't know if it would just die like mine did if the pump did fail Soooo I'm installing a lift pump to see what that will do. I'm using a spare from my 6.5 diesel chevy. It's the type that will still flow through even if it fails. I believe it runs around 4 psi and shuts off when it reaches that pressure. :dizzy: :juggle: :furious: :banghead:

It's in the shop waiting until they can get to it. Anyone know anything about the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD ???? I'm looking into getting one of those if they are more reliable than the Liberty CRD.

Shop called today, first time they had a chance to look at it. Said it needs a cam sensor ?
Told them to go ahead with that. In the mean time I found a 2007 Grand Cherokee CRD with 40K on it. It now sits in my driveway :pepper:  :SOMBRERO:

Bigjm,
PM me or call me (PM me for phone number), so I can share a couple of things about the GC CRD, they include turbo air intake (ensure upgraded gasket), swirl motor failures, resister mod to prevent swirl motor failures, alternator failures and upgrade, potential battery issue, proper way to change oil (important or engine damage can occur), DPF regeneration, importance of regular highway drives, correct oil or DPF could be damaged, spare crank position sensor etc...etc...etc...

Drew

PS Congrats on your GC CRD purchase, its agreat ride.

Well I got the Liberty out of the shop today. The tensioner that the repair shop installed when they did the timing belt failed causing another belt, lifter, and cam gear change. The shop covered all the repair cost. RAPID DIESEL in Rapid City, South Dakota gets a thumbs up for this one. With it fixed I'm really facing a difficult decision, whether to sell it or use it. With the new Grand Cherokee CRD sitting next to it it's a tough one :banghead: The Liberty only has 73K on it and now it should be ready to do another 100K without any problems, but the GC is so~o~o~o nice. Anyone out there wanting a Liberty??????
