Wrap up:

I'm back on the road!!! It took forever for a variety of reasons, but patience has paid off. I know it's starting to sound redundant, but I'll jump in too - Sam is the man. I've only just driven the Jeep today, but even just from first start in my garage the engine is smoother and quieter than it was even before the TB slip. Here's the rundown of the final tally....

TB/Water pump kit from IDparts.com - $575.63
Fan Clutch - $50.76
Samco hoses - $267.37
Fuel Filter head (2nd gen) - $119.72
Rockers (set of 16) - ~$300.00 (international purchase)
2 Lifters - $100
Fuel Injector Crush Washers and O-rings - $41.00

TOTAL - $1453.48 (parts)
There's a bit more in here than I HAD to do to get back running, so I guess if I was on the cheap I could have gotten away with a bit less, but I definitely wanted to get this thing back in primo condition, so no regrets in doing pretty much everything Sam pulled off.

Throw in some $$ for Sam's labor and compared to the initial quote of $8000 for a new engine, I'm elated.

The rockers physically looked ok when pulled, but the bearings were completely crushed internally and had lots of play. ...just a different failure mode than I've seen in other posts. Also, Sam has re-used the injector crush washers in the past, but these leaked, so we put new ones in and no issues.

I think that's it. If I have any updates as I put miles on it I'll post them here, otherwise I'll be happy to leave this thread behind! It's been a long month!

Good to hear things worked out. You didn't do too badly considering that, at 119K, you had to do the TB/WP stuff anyway and I consider the Samco hoses, 2n gen fuel filter head, and fan clutch pretty much "should" do preventive maintenance. Shame about the rockers/lifters but the cost associated with that part of the job is a whole lot better than $8,000.

Looks like to CRD community may be getting some cool videos from Sir Sam on the job too.

Over a normal TB job the only things he paid more for were the rockers and my extra labor charge for the rocker job, so ya, most of that stuff in there were things that needed to be done anyways. The filter head was leaking pretty bad, and while the hoses were fine, its just good preventative measure. The fan clutch was on its way out too, so it was a good time to get that taken care of.

No new videos out of this job, a few pictures and some interesting things to note.
