OK, SO now why does my temp gauge only go to just over the 1/4 mark? It used to go just over the 1/2 mark.
Everything else seems to work just fine.

Sounds like your thermostat has given up. How many miles on this one?

For sure your thermostat is stuck open. It should be at 1/2. which is 195 degrees. Installing a inline 195 stat will fix that for under $15.00.

This could be just a fluke but regarding the thermostat and its failure soon after a TB job / head gasket replacement.

This condition happened to me twice, where a perfectly working thermostat prior to the work failed soon after engine reassembly.

The first time it happened at the TB / waterpump replacement and the second time at the head gasket replacement.

Both times the thermostat was working perfectly prior to the work.

I am wondering if allowing the stat to stand dry without coolant flowing around it for the duration of the swap, seizes or reduces its movement somehow after reassembly!

The second stat only had a few thousand miles through it.

This is what I think may of happened. Are these thermostats serviceable at all? Is there a way to free it up?

I think you may have somthing here. Mine did the same thing after the belt / coolant change. It was down a few days dry.

FYI... the In line thermostat is in several. Latest is "I installed a stant 195 thermostat yesterday"

I will bring it to the top.

Any questions just PM me.
