If they flashed the ECU as opposed to BCM, you probably lost your HOT tune. Check with Keith.

Probably. However, the chat chain says he got a tune update from Keith that should have fixed the problem but did not. I'd be and I'm sure Keith would be curious as to why. I think that question needs to be investigated, perhaps by getting Keith a copy of his current ECU flash, before reflashing the GDE tune lest the reading problem simply come back at the next inspection.

At minimum get the flash tool so you can swap tunes at the next inspection.

Just took our '06 through the DEQ test. The test cost $19. It passed, but set a CEL. The DEQ said that this sometimes happens and that the light would go off "after a while". Autozone scanned and found no codes. They said they couldn't clear the CEL since there were no codes. The CEL went off the next start.
We have the GDE Eco-Tune.

Aftermarket scanners cannot read all the codes that StarScan can. I find that the Innova 3030 (3120/3160 do not work on our '05)seems to get more than most, but not all. Also, find someone with the top of the line VAGCOM and run in generic OBDII mode.

Yeah we discovered the GDE tune to be erased by the dealer, but the owners(my cousin) didn't want to risk putting a tune on and making it unable to pass the testing again, so its stock again. I don't really care personally, i don't drive the car and i know the benefits of the tune and wouldve personally reflashed it to the gde eco tune, but they didn't so whatever. It's outta my hair and that's all i care about.

Understood although they really should either do the EHM, pay attention to freezing in the winter, or perhaps better unplug the MAF between inspections. IIRC unplugging the MAF would shut the EGR off and set a CEL but the CEL would clear with no stored codes, might want to confirm with Sir Sam, after a couple of drive cycles before the next inspection. That would at least keep the soot in the oil level down especially combined with shortish oil change intervals.
