Yea, jeez, that's the name, cv joint, thanks! It's a good upgrade though for the Cherokee's u joints.

four-wheel-drive, high (48/52 differential torque-biased-drive)

I've seen the 48/52 torque-bias spec before, but how does it work? I'm assuming they tweak the gearing in the center planetary a little bit to accomplish this, so if comparing it to a regular axle differential would be like having a little smaller tire on one side of the axle. Is it 48% biased to the front or rear?

On a side note, do all CRD's have the NP242?

Just the way it ends up since the front spins just a tad faster then the rear.

Full-time 4wd is the high-gear range that can be left on. It uses a liquid coupling to engage the front axle, so turning the wheel doesn't cause mechanical binding. This is similar to an AWD system in most other vehicles. Better than nothing... But probably not much.

I would think Full-time would be the best way to goon a snow covered road. I wouldn't want one tire spinning faster/slower than it should while trying to make a turn on snow, which is exactly what would happen in part-time.

The only time i would want part-time on a snow covered road is if i fully intended on using the throttle to steer the jeep  or had to get though something where I know i would be spinning tires like deep snow or a snow bank.

If it were not for the fact that my Legacy GT was boarder-line useless for working on the house, I would not be selling it. The awd system on that thing would lay waste to the jeep in 99% of road conditions. Limited slip center and rear diff's from the factory.

With limited slip in the center AND the rear, your AWD system effectively had the best lockup system available. The part time would make all 4 wheels mechanically locked and spin at the exact same speed. Going straight on mush, if 2 wheels have no grip and 2 do... At least the slipping ones won't freewheel at high speed. You will still be able to keep moving. With Full-Time and an open differential in the middle (and without limited slip in the front or back on my former CRD) all I would be able to do is effectively spin ANY of the 4 wheels that had no grip.

Full-time is good for on-road in snowy conditions, but I'm not really certain how good it would be in snowbank or REALLY slushy conditions off road.
