I have never liked the flat panel filter. I'm still planning to look into a cold air intake mod with a better filter

I run this set up with a k&n filter and I also use the k&n heat shield. I've been running it since winter or about 6 months now. I have not noticed any power increase or decrease but definitely more turbo noise which is what I wanted. I do off road and live in dusty conditions. I haven't noticed any lack of power since it's been in the 90's here either. Turbo is also fine and still clean. I check the turbo inlet periodically for shaft play.

Why do you think 90% of us disabled the EGR? Hehe.

So I have now tried this with the mod and with the stock intake box. I ran a filter minder on both, which is basically a vacuum gauge. With the mod and a clean filter, the filter minder never went above 60%. With the air box and a brand new NAPA filter the filter minder went to 75% at start up. It's safe to say the mod and or larger cone filter definitely flow better. As far as intake temps etc.. I have not tested that. Based on my experience I would say this mod with some sort of cold air/air box around it drawing fresh air from the outside of the engine bay would be ideal. Maybe no air box in the winter considering diesels like to run hotter for better fuel mileage may be the sweet spot..

So just starting the engine moved the filterminder to 75%? Wow. Have you taken it WOT yet?

I've had this done the last 20k miles. It does flow better, watch the tailpipe of a stock crd and how much it smokes. Add the cone filter and it cleans it up a lot.
I watch intake temps now that I have torque pro, and I'm not impressed. On a cool (68°) night cruising I'm seeing around 90° intake temp. I'd like to lower this as much as possible and a cold air box would be best. Don't know what the stock setup runs, but I bet its better than this.

Just checked it again tonight, evic said 60° outside and intake temp was 77. Shot up to 94° on a full throttle run, not to bad but it could be better.

Let me correct that. The gauge on the filter minder went to 75% under normal driving. Reset it and drove around town. Nothing over 2500 RPM.

I'm going to look into making some sort of air box for the mod and having it draw in fresh air from the factory location or maybe inner fender area. We will see. I believe someone on here has started to make a box for something like this.

I think weeks 101 should tackle this one haha, call it a "stage 3 intake kit", cold air intake, metal charge air pipes, and fcv delete kit.

Gosh I really wish Weeks could come up with a good cold air intake mode for our CRD Jeeps! I believe it would sale as no one else has one on the market!!! :ALONE:

anyone make a good cold air yet? I could whip up something to surround a cone filter, but I think the hard part would be to make it not suck rain, and stream water

X2 and a skid plate that will accommodate the larger oil filters and also protect the FS2500

The EGR on this engine wasn't part of the original design, more of an afterthought. The programming on ours was REALLY an afterthought.

They're still correct, EGR reduces engine life significantly.

That's the one. I think you only use the scoop and bottom piece from the gasser. You reuse the lid from your CRD

Something else we need is a top load fuel filter kit. I really hate what we have now. Probably worse than the flat panel filter.

I wish I could figure a way to install the same filter used in the 98 GM 6.5 diesels
