Here are the local motel phone numbers for those needing lodging and directions to the house.

Comfort Inn 800-228-5150

The Bluff Inn 573-785-7711

Holiday Inn 573-776-1200

Drury Peartree Inn 800-325-8300

Super 8 Motel 800-800-8000

Here are the directions for those who need them.

If you are coming from St Louis take I-55 South to Festus/Crystal City area, (exit 174 I think) then take 67 South about 120 miles to Poplar Bluff. Stay on 67 business/ Westwood Blvd, do not take any exits. About 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer; you will come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill at this point Katy lanes becomes Barron Road. Continue on Barron Rd to the second stop sign, (about 2.0 miles) then turn left onto Main St and go up over the hill to first stop sign (about 0.3 miles), then turn right onto Wilcox Road. Take Wilcox Road up over the hill (about 0.2 mile's) and at the first street to the right, (there is a yellow sign with arrows pointing left and right) turn right onto Avondale. Go past one house to the first street to the right and turn right. We are second house on the left. Look for gaggle of VW's and a White Dodge Magnum.

If coming south from IL, the NE area of the US, or SE area of US such as Memphis, take I-57 to US 60, and US 60 to Poplar Bluff, and if coming by I-55 go to the I-55 and US 60 interchange at Sikeston MO. Take the 60 West exit to Poplar Bluff, approx 52 miles. At the second Poplar Bluff exit take the second exit for business 67S/Westwood Blvd. Once on business 67S you will pass the local Dodge/Jeep dealer, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer till you come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill, at this point Katy lanes becomes Barron Road. Continue on Barron Rd to the first stop sign, (about 2.0 miles) then turn left onto Main St and go up over the hill to first stop sign (about 0.3 miles), then turn right onto Wilcox Road.

If coming in from the south of town on Hwy 67N (as some of you AR boys are) Take the 3rd Poplar Bluff exit. You will see the local Dodge/Jeep dealer on your right at this off ramp, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer on Business 67S/Westwood Blvd till you come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill at this point Katy Lane becomes Barron Road. Continue on Barron Rd to the first stop sign, (about 2.0 miles) then turn left onto Main St and go up over the hill to first stop sign (about 0.3 miles), then turn right onto Wilcox Road.

If coming in from the west, go to Springfield MO, and from there take US Highway 60 E to Poplar Bluff. It is all 4 lanes except about 30 miles of the 190 miles to Poplar Bluff. You will take Hwy 60 W to the intersection of 60 and 67 at that point you will take the first exit (60E and 67S) and head south about 8 miles. You will come to an interchange, do not take any exits. You will pass the local Dodge and Jeep dealer, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer, till you come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill at this point Katy lanes becomes Barron Road. Continue on Barron Rd to the first stop sign, (about 2.0 miles) then turn left onto Main St and go up over the hill to first stop sign (about 0.3 miles), then turn right onto Wilcox Road.

For those coming in at the north side of the town (everyone should be) and going straight to the motel, go past the first light and the Super8 is on the right, next to the McDonald's and you can turn into the McD's (easiest way) lot to get to Super8. Holiday inn is on the right about 1/8th mile past the McD's. The Drury and Comfort Inn motels are 1/4 mile down the road about on the left. The Bluff Inn is about 1/10th mile passed the Drury and Comfort Inn's on the opposite side of Westwood Blvd/67Business.

If you have any questions just ask, feel free to call anytime between 8 am - 10 pm CST .

Home phone is 573-686-8868

For those that has been here before and have copied the directions the city has recently removed one stop sign from Barron Road. I have made changes to the directions to reflect that change.

Work List:

TB List:

As per MOGolf: B4's require: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, idler roller, serpentine belt, power steering/water pump v-belt, serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Optional is water pump as these last a very long time typically. Usually only the part with the impeller is needed, however if bolts break off then you're better off with the entire assmbly with new o-rings for mating to the block and thermosat. Replacing the entire assembly takes a lot longer than just the impeller housing. Some vendors sell the entire assembly for less than just the impeller housing with gasket.

1.) Jerry Stringer: TB on '97 Passat
2.) Kneebull: TB on '96 Passat
3.) mcolmsted: TB on '03 Jetta Wagon
4.) Bookerdog: TB on '02 Golf

General maintenace & trouble shooting:

1.) Cardinarky: vacuum problems? brake bleeding.
2.) Old Navy: Brake bleeding on Magnum.
3.) ensanity: Door handle adjustment to prevent pulling off arms.
4.) marauderer: Provent install and TS Performance MP-8 power module and their Multi purpose display module to install on '05 CRD.
5.) TDI'watcher: Intake cleaning.

At present I think it is three, but I need to go to the GTG page and check to be sure. It may be twice that as there are several in the area.

How is the sail on the Westy, if you use that you can cut about 3 hrs off the trip.

I have had long-term plans to attend since you first announced it. Unfortunately, my GF has informed me that her family is driving up from Wichita to visit- most likely that weekend. We're still trying to confirm their date (and push it off a week), so I'll let you know ASAP if I will make it. I had been planning on day-tripping it, but might decide to crash in town instead. Is there any camping available around there?

Ok I can undertand that, family is first. Ignore comment in another thread then.

Do you know if RC has a program for the CRD? Sounds like the VW guys will be taking advantage of RC at the GTG.

Jeff of RocketChip is coming to the GTG and here is their website link Rocket Chip and they do have the Euro chipoping program available. Not sure of cost as I have never asked, but he usually discounts for people at these VW GTG's and I am sure the same applies here for us CRD owners. Jeff is an actual engineer and knows what he is doing. I have known him for about 3 years and he is a square shooter and none BS'er.

While at the GTG I thought we might see what it would take to mount a Cat 2 on the CRD.

Sounds like a winner to me. I would like to have a 2 micron absolute filter premechanicals. I have heard the CRD has a 3 micron, but if it does it would not 3 absolute. I would bet it is probably 10 micron as used on VW and MB diesels, with 20 absulote filteration. Just replaced mine this week, took about 15 minutes.

Talked with local parts shop asst mgr (Jason) and he will let us have any parts for members of the GTG/forum for employee price + tax.

Air filters $15.00 each

Oil filters $10.50 each or $114 (that's a $12 savings) for a case of 12 filters.

Fuel Filters $29.00 each.

Remember this is including taxes. If prepaying you may be able to get it without tax, but not sure and I forgot to ask. So ask about that if you prepay.

If you want to prepay with CC and have me pick it up and have it here at GTG then call Jason at 573-785-7485 tell him you are coming to Walt's diesel GTG and what you want to buy, this is the wholesale direct line in parts dept office of Larry Hillis Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Sprinter dealership. If you want to confirm that for any reason call the dealer at 573-785-5769 and the receptionest will answer and direct your call.

Also Jason will offer the same for any part(s) you may want to order and can ship it to you if needed. So if someone wanted to put on skid plates you could buy them from him at employee price and install them here or just pick them up here, have the dealer ship them to you, or at dealer because they are open on Saturdays. I do have the tools to install the special rev-nuts and even floor jack to assist you if you want to install the plates here before leaving for home.

If only doing a provent install there is no need to bring any tools, I even have hose cutting tool you can use. You might come over Friday even after you get here, there will be a couple of people over here tinkring and you may be able to do the job that evening. I think one guy will be doing a timing belt job on a VW Friday night. Anyway if up to it drop over Friday afternoon or evening and if nothing else just visit awhile.

The garage is just a standard 25 x 25 two car garage and big drive-way. Unless it is raining you could even do that install in the driveway.

For those coming remember we provide the food & drink and then just set a donation box out for everyone to just chip in and defray the cost, we even will have a porta-potty set up in back for the guys.

This makes it easier for those traveling and everyone is traveling at least 3 hrs and some probably 10 or 12 hrs, so if someone falis to show we are not missing any food or drinks. However if you have something special you want to bring then feel free, some of the regulars usually stop by a KK for donuts for us, as nearest KK shope is about 180 miles away. :(
