I can't thank everyone enough for your help.

I cleaned the map sensor, changed the oil and air filter the first week I got the Liberty crd. Also, ordered a timing belt kit and will install that in about a week when time allows. I have several other things to check out (thanks to all who gave tips) , but I also ordered intercooler hoses just to eliminate that possibility.

The GDE tune sounds like it would be something I want, but it is expensive. The tune is $500 and you need $200 worth of hardware to interface according to the website. There would be a payback with fuel savings. I will figure out a 2-3 MPG increase to see how long it would take to equal the cost of the tune. My guess is that it would take several years of fuel savings to pay for the tune. On the other hand, the power increase would be nice to have and if you enjoy that it would be worth it. The GDE tune apparently saves on having egr problems, so that is $ savings as well.

Just to clarify on the GDE tune. The tune itself costs $500 but you do not need to buy a $200 piece of hardware to interface, click on the "What is this" link on the GDE tune purchase site for an explanation. Short version a) purchase the tune WITH the hardware which will let you upload the tune and keep the hardware which also serves to read and clear ECU fault codes in the future; b) purchase the tune and RENT the tool (net tool rental cost $50 after refund); c) mail in your ECU for Keith to load the tune. Option c) is perfectly viable although your vehicle will be down for a brief period of time; I originally used this option by shipping to Keith via USPS priority mail flat rate box (at the time ca. $10). Works great if you ship on like Sat then Keith will get it on Monday or so and you will have it back likely by Thursday or at the latest Friday. Keep in mind that he is on vacation until June 4 at the moment.

The tune (I've had the Eco tune and currently have the turbo tune with his stage II turbo) and the mpg gain over whatever mpg you are currently getting (in town or hwy) runs 20% or better plus much better power and a substantial reduction in soot input to the engine. Well worth it from a cost benefit perspective for both mpg improvement and reduced engine wear not to mention you can forget about EGR problems.
