WWD,

So, on an otherwise stock vehicle with a GDE tune, would you expect to find combustion gasses in the coolant if there is a leak in the EGR system as you described? If yes, how might one distinguish between an EGR and HG leak, without removing the EGR?

Would you expect an EGR leak to result in residual pressure in the header tank of a cold motor?

Thanks!

DOC

I would not expect that, it can only be a leak with a lot of pressure that is unable to relieve it self. EGR cooler leak would mean no vacuum or pressure under the cap as the engine cools down. Did you put a pressure test on the system and start it to see if you are indeed getting water in the exhaust?

As the engine cools, the contraction pulls the water back from the overflow tank into the main section. This design is different from most other, in that the coolant bottle is an active participant in the coolant loop, rather than just being the high point and a dead end.

This correct but your cooling system is the same design as all others in the last 20+ years.

I think he meant the coolant bottle is pressurized, versus other models (like your favorite 4slow :P ) that have the radiator cap holding the pressure release valve and the coolant bottle just holding extra antifreeze.

Just like almost every vehicle made in the last 20 or so years.
