I'm dealing with a similar problem. I actually changed my carrier bearings this week. Everything else "felt" fine I thought what else is there. I also tried it with out the front drive shaft, in and out of 4wd ect. no change! Not sure what to do next, I'd prefer not to just change things till I find it.

Wow, did it sound like it was coming from one side or the other? If so, you could hit the junkyard and get some swapping parts for cheap hopefully to test with. I have the luxury of one of most all parts from a CRD I completely parted-out. Maybe someone near you has some parts you could used for swapping?

Did you pull the right side CV? That is the side with the intermeditate shaft I think. Might be something funky going on there.

Nope, but I've been wondering if it's worth a try. I guess the sound could be almost central. The right CV feels like it's pretty solid. Hmm, maybe since the dif sits to the left it could be the inner side of the right CV? ! I think I'll try that next :banghead: :dizzy: :juggle:

Well, I had an old master mechanic listen to it, and he was leaning towards the pinion :banghead: So, I started tearing the front dif out again, and noticed the front right hub wasn't very smooth :BINGO:

Don't let a bearing growl that gets louder in a right turn convince you that it's coming from the left side :5SHOTS: It even sounded distinctly like it was coming from the left!

Mystery solved, front RIGHT bearing...

If you wheel with larger than stock tires you will have to replace your front wheel bearings often.
I don't know why the rear bearings hold up so well. It could be due to the cornering of the front bearings.

Usually if a bearing is failing there's "play" in the wheel assembly and a howl.

That's lame. How do the aftermarket ones hold up to bigger tires? I'm only running 30" tall tires on my daily driver.

I am experiencing the same issue, noisy grumbling from front end, that increases when under load or while towing.

Yeah, I think when I checked that wheel bearing the first time it wasn't bad enough to feel, but still made noise at 50+mph. I had to drive it and make it worse before I could feel it :furious: I don't like these modern sealed bearings. The old style lasted forever if set up right...

Similar drive line issue low growling sound from front of jeep and upper control arms rubbing against tire. So looking for a part list what needs to be replaced as jeep is 200K KM so 120K miles.

My noise turned out to be tires. I put the front tires on the the back and it got quiet.
