I like my GDE Stage II turbo and suspect that it's operating not as near design limits as the OEM turbo; if so it should be more durable. Would I normally have purchased it probably not but then it was a retirement present to myself from myself so....
Install is not too hard. We did it in under a picnic tent in geordi's front yard including the pipe cutting and welding with only minor floor jack help/no jack stands. I have an edited version, based on experience, of GDE's install instructions if anyone wants a copy just email me.
Things to consider: 1. the stock torque converter won't handle the available power. Shudder is instantaneous if you hammer the go pedal. However, in the short term the stock TC is ok if you drive somewhat gently. Long term you will need a TC upgrade - Euro, Suncoast, maybe hemi, whatever 2. your ECU will need to be reprogrammed for this turbo even if you already have a GDE tune. If you have a GDE tune there is a bit of a discount on the list price. 3. most critical part of the install or any turbo install is a 12-24 hr penetrating lube presoak of the 4 nuts holding the turbo to the exhaust manifold. The OEM nuts are pinch or jam nuts, why I have no clue as regular nuts with lock washers work fine, and are difficult to remove. We broke like 3 of 4 studs and had a heck of a time removing the broken studs. Replaced with grade 5 studs from local parts store. That added several annoying hrs to what should have been a relatively brief install.
