They won't share because their application of policy is not consistent which makes it difficult for them to justify individual cases.

This is the frustrating thing about it. We've had many brilliant ideas that have seeded and grown here. Like I pointed out many vendors kick started their R&D and initial product launch here. For some the R&D and testing aspects were even community efforts. A number of these product came, sold in limited quantities and disappeared or were superseded without even becoming commercial products.

TDF was touting his product and naming prices here for a full two years before he finally became an official vendor in June last year. None of his threads we're ever deleted despite him blatantly advertising and selling product so where's the fairness and consistent application of policy in that?

Draconian enforcement might suit specific official vendors under specific competitive circumstances but it's not in the interests of the community as a whole to pick and choose like this.

Things have worked fine here up until now. I also don't have a problem with the mods strictly enforcing a no ads policy but if we go that route at least make the choice, make it clear and enforce policy consistently and fairly.

Must have blinked.

Got my old thermostat cut apart. Noticed Sarge's nicely dimensioned drawings of the "missing part" and planned on cranking out a few for local CRD'rs. Didn't notice any conflict in the thread %#+#¢×√¢^=[€€¢££|π×{@$&*):!!! (woooops, there's that touret's syndrome again... woof)

Love to see those dimensions again so I don't have to brain it up myself.

Shame to kill a good idea.

I one doubt Jeff (tdf) complained. I believe thread may have been deleted due to other reasons (personal attacks or offering to make changes for monetary benefits without being registered as a forum sponsor?), regardless, the modification suggested by sarge should be reposted in crd tech forum with no option in offering to modify something for cash.

With regards to personal attacks, contentious comments etc, that thread was completely clean. Jeff's lack of participation in that thread did strike me as odd especially since he has gone out of his way to pollute every other cooling system thread. Maybe he assumed an offer to sell would eventually materialise and at that point the thread could disappear without trace thus rendering his participation a waste of time :grim:. Sarge did ultimately make an offer to assist for payment but, considering TDF was blatantly promoting and selling his housing for 2 full years through his "add your name here" thread on this forum before becoming a sponsor, removing the entire thread in this case was somewhat harsh, not to mention highly suspicious.

Sarge did this mod for himself and was kind enough to share. If I was him I wouldn't bother reposting. We are not worthy of his efforts

Then maybe just the fact that he offered to make some mods for money, which requires to be a forum vendor? I find it a bit odd that the whole thread was nuked without warning. I can't comment though as I don't know the facts, maybe there were warnings and we don't know. I am also for sharing as much knowledge and variants as possible.

It's not that "we" deleted the thread, it must have had something wrong supposedly that the mods deleted it. But I'd repost the ideas if I were him, leaving out the offers to modify anything for cash. Anyways, people know he's willing do it so they can pm him instead, lol.

I think they thought Jeff should donate high end tstats for charity out of the good of his heart?

The problem was that neither TDF nor his detractors would just let it go.
Both sides would continuously fire back at each other, taking whatever thread off-course, with no resolution.

TDF shouldn't have to justify the cost of his thermostat. Especially when people are buying it. That alone speaks for itself.
Those who think its too expensive should just politely keep to themselves and save their money or find a different solution.

But TDF, who has advertisements on this forum and has a separate forum subsection for the product he sells, should not be injecting an advertisement into every thread that even hints at the possibility of a thermostat or cooling system problem.
His customers, the buyers of the HDS mod 1 thermostat, are the best salesmen he has.

Your right it is a great device, and after purchasing one, and holding in my hands, installing it, and getting the kind of heat and proper fuel combustion I never had, I would say it is a hit.

The OE stat was designed to be disposable, so I am not sure it is a good idea to machine it, and tap it and expect any long term durability out of it. I would hate to be on a long trip and have it blow a leak due to the thinness of the pot metal it is made of.

The HDS is an engineered device, and you get what you pay for.

This is true.
But that doesn't mean that others should just stop coming up with their own designs and sharing their ideas here on this forum.
Which is why this whole thread got started in the first place.
Someone created an alternative and shared the design and specifications here on this forum.
And then a moderator deleted it... :?:

Regardless of that deletion, the information and all the assembly details are still available for those who request it.

I agree, people should be able to do their own DIY project and share it, if that is what they want.

I'm sure Jeff is reading this thread, and he seems like a decent guy, trying to sell a good product. I'd really like him to weight in if he had anything to do with it. Honesty is the best policy, and he truly may not have reported it. I'd like to think that if he did, he would want to explain why. I won't lie, the quiet is somewhat unsettling.

How would it benefit Jeff to debate this thread that has nothing to do with the product he is selling?

If I were a vendor I would not even get involved in threads like this, you walk a thin line when you are selling or in business.

He can state his product is better than the alternative, because it is, but that would be about all.

Don't rush judging people folks, he is working and he may have some busy schedule. It had happened in the past in early stages of hds.

Oh yeah, if I were Jeff I'd certainly want to enter a thread full of cheap people crying about my product and coming up with conspiracy theory's about a silly thread being deleted that was completely responsible for the collapse of free speech.
