Last 2 tanks of B20, from Penn Mart in Salisbury. 885 miles, 35 gallons, 25.3 MPG average for the month, all commuting secondary roads 45 to 55 mph, small percentage in town 35 mph stop and go. 4 empty 5 gallon jugs and tank only took 15 gallons. Could have come bloody close to hitting 1000 miles on two tanks.

It will do the 500 mile tank thing. Ran an 820 mile trip last week. First tank went 470 miles, refilled to the cap with 17.7 gal. Definately didn't baby it or even attempt to maximize mileage. That was running mostly PA Turnpike (lots of hills) and burning B20.

I've done 500 miles plus on a tank before, but it was 100% interstate driving with the cruise on, 520 miles on 17 gallons of Diamond Shamrock #2 dino. Started that trip with 3700 miles on the beast, and ended up with just shy of 7000.

Now it's pushing 11500 miles, and getting 480 miles to a tank doing the daily commute. Would love to do another long distance trip and see what it could do now.

There are actually refining standards, more a question of the refiner meeting them. The variety of the oil base stock will effect the finished fuel. As with D2, cleaniness, freshness, storage, etc.. also play an important role. I find it interesting how home brewers usuing WVO base stock usually report very good results running B100. One would assume the base oil stock has a blend of oil fats by the time it becomes waste oil. Might just produce a superior product when compared to virgin oil stock.

I think the nail has been hit on the head. in the course of it's life in the fryer the veg oil picks up a lot of longer chain fats and tallows, these longer molecules have a higher energy content than pure soy oil. I have noticed the same phenomenon from my homebrew B-100. The only thing that gave me higher mpg was 100% coconut oil bio (31 mpg). A friend of mine was given a 55 gallon drum of coconut oil, so of course we had to see if we could make our diesels smell like pinacoladas going down the road (yep). Try explaining that to the cop though. 8)
