Pablo - thanks for the EGT info, :) I've wondered about it but as of yet don't have a gauge set.

Pablo - ditto, thanks. This makes the GDE sound that much better for me. I'm a big fan of more power (and less cost) like with the InMotion, but more MPG and lower EGT balance that quite nicely... Dang decisions!

Half tank of B33 and 308 miles on the trip meter (which is off by 10% with the lift-- so 338.8 miles). I usually only see 300+ miles at half a tank when on the highway, this was 50/50 city and highway. :D

Two things why not source the TCM and torque converter personally from European distributers, second clean veggie oil or WVO is also a good cleaner(good precleaner for stubborn stuff) I have used it on engine bay of my old w-350 cummins and then did clean-up with simple green, clean like new....working on a 100% natural industrail cleaner based on bio-d elements I'll keep ya posted........H

I averaged 27.4 miles per gallon on my first tank with lots of in town driving from running errands (60% in town, 40% highway).

Compared to stock:

I would get 25-26 MPG most tanks, with 60-70% of my typical driving being on the highway.
The few times I used most of a tank on city driving, my mileage lowered to 23-24.
Highway only driving got up to 28mpg, but was usually 26-27.

I would say there is certainly an improvement, but I can't say how much for sure. Now that the new 4.10 gears are in... it will no longer be apples to apples.

GDE forum is up and running. Anyone interested in their stuff, this is a good place to inquire.

So far my INmotion is working for me I am happy with it. What I notice is that when I install the 2002 air box, I never got ready of the Idle hesitation; So the other day I took the elbow off and drove it like that and to my surprise the Idle hesitation was gone so I put a small mesh on the hole so no large debris get in and so far no more hesitation.

I'd rather see it discussed here. It is usually hard to get honest discussion on a vendor's forum in my experience.

I think it's also more productive for non-GDE customers to see the discussion traffic here as they do their normal LOST surfing.

I purchased my tune because of 110 miles round trip to and from work, 95% highway. While going from Onondaga (look it up on the map - south of Mason) to Mount Clemens and back for two consecutive days, 36.4 mpg. I traveled 127 to 96 to 696 to 94 all during rush hour. It is well worth it for me.

What in the world are you doing making that drive? That stinks.

I'm happy to hear that info. I am thinking about it more so each day. I'm driving to Traverse City this weekend, and I'm going to perform the ORM to see if there is a massive change on all highway driving.

26 MPG * 20.5 Gal = 533 miles
36 MPG * 20.5 Gal = 738 miles

205 Miles more per tank right?

Can someone do the math here to figure out how long it will take to earn back the $550 for the upgrade? Is that like a $20 savings per fill up? (fuel here is 2.89)

at 26mpg with $2.89 per gallon, that's about 11.1 cents per mile
at 36mpg with $2.89 per gallon, that's about 8.0 cents per mile

Saving 3.1 cents per mile would take 17,742 miles to recoup the $550 investment.

A lot of miles, but it will eventually "pay for itself" and there are other benefits to the tune to consider as well.

One word of warning, don't get too overly optimistic in your mpg estimates. A gain of 10mpg is a little too high of an expectation for any tune, even GDE.

The best I have ever done is just under 36, but that was driving 60mph on a flat interstate with cruise control and no AC. I get around 32-33 in more normal highway driving, whereas I would have gotten about 28 in similar situations before.

Yes we have pretty well discussed this on the GDE site, they are unable to completely
correct the EVIC error in miles per gallon, and it is 4-6 mile per gallon off. So if you get
a 37 mpg EVIC you are at about 31-32 real time hand calculated. You realistically
get a 3-5 mpg improvement city and hwy from what you currently get. And many
conditions, tires, lifts, brakes hanging on and not releasing. Lots of factors come
into play. I get high Evic numbers, but generally on a trip I can do 30mpg solid and
the other benefits, well it just makes it a very nice machine now.

After chatting with the folks at GDE about the tune the other day, they've come up with a way to make the EVIC a little better. (mine is due in the mail this afternoon, so we'll see). Essentially what it boils down to is that the EVIC calculates mileage based on the odo feed (sensor in the rear diff) and the number of times the injectors are firing. The tricky bit is that the injector fire count yields a different overall work (i.e. amount your rig moves) depending on things like speed, gear, load, if it's warm or not, if you are driving uphill or down, etc... SO, give that the EVIC is a linear function (higher-degree variables for all that other stuff) GDE picked a value for the math that was closer to what their tune yielded. It probably still won't be accurate since the measurement is fundamentally flawed, but it should be better than the first few versions of the tune.

Dan

Hi Dan,

The question is - does the ECU know exactly how much fuel comes out of the injector with each pulse? If this is known, then this is absolutely all that is needed. You simply need to know how much distance you've covered, and how much fuel you've pulled out of the tank. Everything else - load, ambient temps, grade, altitude - doesn't matter worth a hill of beans. However, if the amount of fuel per squirt varies due to fuel rail pressure and this can't be known (or just isn't computed) by the ECU, then this will introduce error.

- Chris

Ha, no wonder the EVIC varies so much for me. A couple months ago, I was driving from NM to AZ, dropping about 3,000ft in elevation overall, and managed to get an EVIC reading of 48.2mpg! (actual was only about 33 lol)

I don't have an evic. I always fill my tank as much as possible and then divide the miles on the trip. I'm sure that isn't too exact, but I should at least be able to see a difference.

So perhaps 50,000 miles to recoup the cost not to mention a cleaner manifold? It may pay off.

My EVIC is almost exactly 3mpg off..
