on a side note...the egr runs while in park right? so those who end up idling for long periods will still see the negative impact of the egr??
So, the "inside the engine bay wiring" thing is all about taping, untaping, unbolting, bolting, unclipping, re-clipping, and a little soldering in the middle. It's totally your call on if want to do it, but it's really not that daunting if you're comfortable working with computers/mechanical things and you're methodical about it. That portion of the job took me a few hours in a cold, somewhat poorly lit garage. I've done similar project before but never in the engine bay of a vehicle. Same thing with dealer issues. Done well, most dealers won't even notice, much less question the system installed (especially if bypassed).
As for the circuit function, with the system installed, the EGR never gets power. You run both upstream and downstream EGR splices to the harness-side plug for potential use by a bypass plug, but in the internal socket, nothing connects to the egr side pin. What DOES reactivate while the transmission is in P/N is the Air Flow Valve that restricts intake air. This helps in smooth shutdowns, etc. Internally, the SEGR has a big resistor that dissipates any current that would have opened the valve for exhaust gasses, completing the circuit and allowing the computer to go along its merry way.
