I just put in 1/2 oz in every container in the summer & winter, but sometimes I forget to add it to the mix and have to do a 1 or 2 oz shock to get back on track. That said most tank farms or bulk suppliers will treat fuel with a biocide when they get it from the refinery. However I don't want to depend on that as cleaning the groth from the fuel system can be time comsuming and expensive.
The reason I don't buy the 16 oz bottles is they cost twice as much as the 96 oz jug.
The reason I said quarterly is that was what I read and 1/2 oz would go a long way in those quantities. You do it more often. Mine hasn't been done in the year that I owned it. May have to shock it. At any rate, 16 oz is enough for me to run 4 months and I don't have to shell out $75 all at once for the big jug.
Big Jug is <$15, maybe we are talking apples and oranges here. Are you talking about cetane additve or biocided? I think I didn't catch the switch. If you are buying a 16 oz biocide and using 4oz once every month, that is a little much. Using 4 oz for a shock treatment on the 20 gal tank is about right then do 1/2 once a month there after would be my recommendation. I did the 1/2 oz per tank every each fill up and for us that is twice a month. However that was when I was using B10 or B2 diesel, now that we are not using B10 or B2 fuel I just add 1/2 oz once a month as a preventive. One reason I use it on such a regular basis is we live in very humid climate here in Swampeast MO, so I dose a little more then probably needed just to be sure. On the PS cetane booster I do 12 oz every fill, but sometimes I do forget and end up skipping a tank, but it isn't a big deal.
