From what I have been told, highly recommend Automotive Components especially for those of you in the 110-120*f western states. Components may fail or reduction of life under high temps. Also a moisture barrier needs to be used.

Coating the board is eeeeeasy with a spray can of moisture/ fungus resistant varnish based PC board coating or better yet a spray can of silicone based PC board coating, both available from Newark Electronics (NewarkandOne.com) I would think vibration with heat would be more of an issue. A simple set of heat sinks from the same supplier mounted to the case would improve longevity and a dab of silicone between the components that stick up off the board will keep them from breaking off over time

We now have 30 people on board. This is what we needed to meet the min to get the components and boards reasonably. If anyone else would like to join us the more the better. Just keep in mind the wednesday midnight 7-11-07 deadline.

The only thing that needs a heat sink is that 10 Ohm, 20 Watt resistor, and that is already mounted to the aluminum box, that is mounted to an aluminum plate, that is bolted to the firewall. That is way more than enough heat sink! Also note that more heat is sunk into the box than what is sinked out of the box.
None of the parts are being used more than about 5% of their capacity. (Except the one 1 KOhm resistor on the input of the op-amp). I would find some kind of rubbery filler to pot it with. I'll see what is around in ACE Hardware or something like that.....

Ok guys...Everyone who has signed up has been sent a PM with payment info. If anyone else is interested now is the time to get in on this. Remember the 7-11-07 midnight deadline.

I will have the final number of people who want kits by midnight wednesday and will place the neccesary orders thursday morning. The components should ship to me right away so I can start dividing them up into kits. The PCB's have a 2 week build time so if everything goes well you should have your kits in 3 weeks give or take a day or two ready for you and your soldering iron to get busy.

Also in talking with Turbo Tim, all components are only being used at 5-10% of their respective rated power capacity. Here is a quote from his last email...

" I now have over 4500 miles on this circuit, have drove from Phoenix to San Diego across the desert in the middle of the day (118 degrees F in the shade), and still drive every day here in Phoenix back and forth to work (115* F), and it is still working like a champ. I'm not worried. The worst it can do is fail and throw the CEL light on. Same as unplugging the MAF sensor again."

I would love to... however... after 5 new tires and a lift kit, (this week) my $$ tree has been cut down

So, for the rest of us who are wanting to wait to see what the results are with this mod, cant do it now and/or just dont have the time or place to sit down with soder and an iron to build this thing, whats next for us? will their be another buy in? (of course it would be much much smaller than this one) will some one (member) out their for say $100 build the kit and send it out for those who cant/dont want to build it? Or can we buy pre built's at the G2G?

just some thoughts

Not sure what to tell you. Murphy's law says someone won't follow through with payment so i expect a couple to be available eventually. If there is enough interest latter, and I still have half my sanity, I suppose we could do this all again. Only time will tell.

Just wrote this on another place in this forum. I have decided to sell the CRD. Read my story and you will understand.

all the best

Anders T.

Daimler Chrysler Sweden - my experince must beat anything.
Bought a brand new Jeep Cherokee CRD Limited. After 5000 km the ABS brakes failed. Car taken care of by J"eep Privilege Service" and towed to an Auctorized Chrysler Jeep workshop. Some sort of softwareproblem.

After 8 weeks of reparation without no help at all - no car, no way of the selling organization Hedins Bil AB to take the broken car back.

I had to buy another, since it was to costly with a rented one. A Suzuki Grand Vitara CDI. After 8 weeks working on the CRD they couldn´t even say when my Jeep should be ready or if they ever would make it. After this they repaired the car for another 7 weeks.

That is 15 weeks at the workshop for my new car. With no help whatsoever. You know we don´t have a lemon law here in Sweden.
Now the CRD is working, but everytime I drive it I get mad, thinking of how this organization deals with their customers. I will have to let it go. Can´t stand this.

I will tell my story on Forums all over the world, and I have never read of something similar to this.
This story is well dokumented and if someone is interested I will let you know all details. If you privatly take contact with me.

If you can beat this story - let me know.

all the best

Anders T.
