I would like to let everyone know who is/was involved in making the SEGR a reality that I am very thankful for your unselfish labor in doing this. :D

When we were playing with the ORM, and contemplating the how, if, and why of what is now called the SEGR, my only request was that it would remain a "public domain", community project that would not benefit any one person.

Turbo Tim, you have demonstrated the utmost in community spirit with your design and distribution of the SEGR circuit! My hat is off to you and my utmost thanks for your accomplishment. I was very skeptical about whether this could be done, but you did it and made all of us who participated much better off!! This is another fine example of how the Internet can be used by a small community to better their lives.

LocoCRD, Thank you for taking the time to save all of us so much time!! Thanks for putting up your own finances to front this project. If you come up short when all is said and done, please don't hesitate to let us all know about it. I am certainly willing to help make up the difference so it doesn't become an expense to you...

UFO, Thanks for building the circuit for all those people for "almost free". I would have gone blind if I had to solder all those boards. Your work is greatly appreciated by all those "solder challenged" individuals. You have allowed many to participate in this project that otherwise would not be able to.

Thanks to all of those offering help in the "SEGR Builders Thread". Your time, patience and experience are very much appreciated by all of us. I've learned a lot by reading the thread. Even though I got mine to work on the first try (sort of), all of your discussions will help me repair my unit if something happens to it in the 500,000 miles I plan on running this vehicle.

As for me, I have over 3000 miles on the SEGR. I put 26,000 miles on the ORM. I installed the SEGR the day after the vehicle turned 36,000 miles. I'm more than happy about how the CRD runs now! (like it should)

Thanks again!!

Chris

ChessMaster - having read your post in the 'state-of-the-techs' thread, I must say, my hat's off to you and your anonymous co-conspirator, then, and I'm really glad you had so much trouble with that original CRD, tho the aggravation must've been unsettling - the result of that travail is definite improvement of the breed, thus restoring the joy of ownership and putting a post-modification smile on each owner's face - I'm really glad you posted, because the 'why' is equally important to me as the 'how'.

Kudos also to Turbo Tim for the R&D resulting in an excellent design, LocoCrd for the intense labor of formulating and assembling the kits, and UFO for the intense labor in assembling and testing finished modules.

Further thanks to Darby for an excellent forum, without whom and which there would be many more disgruntled KJ owners, seeking other rides.

And to Old Navy, Retmil46, Ranger1, DZL_LOU - I know I'm forgetting many whose posts I've read - and others who've contributed to the refinement of the little mule in the areas of transmission, fuel supply\filtration, etc - to all those that came before and quietly endeavored toward improvement, you've all saved me a lot of time and frustration in making the Jeep an enjoyable and reliable vehicle for my youngest son to drive.

Thanks

jd

Very Happy with my SEGR...I just need to tidy up the install a bit. gmctd and I left the wires very long to make sure we could mount the "box" anywhere. I need to shorten the wires and then wrap in some kind of "stealth" sheathing. I also want to waterproof the box itself.

The CRD runs great and gets very good mileage. The intercooler charge does not get diluted with hot dirty air. The engine does not recirculate dirty inert gases so the oil stays cleaner and engine wear is down...especially Aluminum (the top end). The CEL acts as designed. Overall driveability is improved. The only problem would come if a Jeep mechanic discovered the box and denied a "warranty fix" due to the "SEGR". That is why I want to dress it down a bit...

thats a question I was just going ask about... #1. So if the box is installed,do we still leave the plug on the air cleaner unplugged? and #2. If we have to go to the dealer do we leave the box on or disconnect it or what?

No, the SEGR box uses the MAF signal. If you leave it unplugged, you will get a CEL just like before, only it might be a different code.

You do plug back in the MAF...that is the beauty of the SEGR.

To go to the dealer, you can do a stealth install...not very hard.

The other thing you "can do" is finish wire #5 to make everything function as stock. In reality, I do not think the dealer will know since this SEGR gets rid of any codes associated with the MAF signal.

what do you mean finish #5? and as far as stealth you mean just hide the box real well??

I have posted some of my results in the install thread not realizing this thread was running. I have had the unit installed 1 week and only a partial tank of fuel. I am now in temperatures that cause my torque converter and OD to wait a while for warm fluid and believe that will mess up any MPG comparisons I might make. I erased all codes with my OBDII scan tool before test driving. If you do this too, besure to start the truck to reset the computer before you plug the scanner in. I tried to reset the codes using the assy key before starting and, of coarse, it could not find any so I started the truck with the OBDII scanner plugged in and things went screwy. Even the cd changer in the radio spit out what was in it and continually switched modes. The truck died after about 10 seconds. I unplugged the scanner and restarted the truck and all was normal. I then shut it off and plugged the scanner back in and the codes were there and I erased them. All has gone well since. It runs alot quieter at crusing speed. It has plenty of spunk and no codes have been thrown. I mostly drive rural roads and don't get into OD much but the worst mileage I got this summer was 25.4. This last tank was 23.42 but again it was cold weather. The best mileage I have gotten was 27.2 so far but I have only had the truck since 6/18/2007. I had to replace the EGR the first week I had it home. I ran th ORM after the first fill up. I could not be happier with the results so far and enjoyed the close communications with all the guys throughout this project. I also have a great feeling of satisfaction that I was able to successfully complete this project when others have indicated they would not or could not attempt it. I am sure that those that are intimidated by the kit when they received it can still contact UFO and he will get them started off right by completing the PCB board assembly. What he charged me to do it was very minimal compared to getting that part screwed up and only finding out when you spliced it in. Just read everything here on the site you can find, study the pictures others have submitted, and take your time. You can do it. Be sure to read all the input since improvements have been discovered by each that have installed it and can save you a lot of hair. I found two threads that helped a lot. The current SEGR Builders Thread and another that was used by the guys that were involved in the first group. I can't remember the name of it but a search will find it. It has only recently been called the SEGR (Synthetic EGR) so you will not find it searching for SEGR.

Wire 5 is the wire to the EGR valve. You run it to the connector even though it's not wired in the box so you can install a bypass plug to restore EGR function (on the off chance you need EGR, like a trip to the dealer). Stealth is wiring the harness in the raceway, and hiding the box under the dash.

I finally got mine installed on Saturday. I took some video and pictures that I will post soon (if they came out okay). I'm glad to finally have it in. Now I need to get a bypass plug just in case. I'll post my impressions after a tank or two.

Looks scary, the photos on the site made it all clear. Installed in 2 hours without any problems.
No codes, better power, picked up 2 MPG.
Great product.
Highly recommend for all CRD liberty drivers

Mine doesn't work... Well it sort of does... the check engine light is still on but the EGR is disabled. I bought a preassembled unit and carried out the install myself. I will check my wiring soon. Same codes as with the ORM using my HF code reader. I have faith in my wiring as I have some exp. Everything else works well... Also, installing the SEGR bypass plug and clearing the codes will return the CRD back to standard with the loveable EGR function. Anyone live near 19076 with a SEGR that could test mine on their rig? Could possibly save me some time... I am willing to drive and would love to check out another CRD! : )

Cheers,
Erik

Upon further inspection I had a couple of wires switched @ the splice into the harness... Low and behold everything is working well. No more problems here. BTW, Loco was very helpful and responsive. I did not expect any since I had waited a year to install it. Great guy! Great mod! Thanks All!

Cheers,
Erik

Weegie5 posted that he took some pics and video. Was that ever posted? Does anyone else have any pictures? I will be installing my SEGR this weekend and I will gladly accept any help offered.
