From the pictures, it doesn`t seem they could add a lot of logic within the plug itself...

Yes, all it is is a resistor.

why pay $50 bucks for a few cents part?

The biggest fuel economy gains I've seen are from going with numerically higher gears. The second biggest is from going to an electric fan.

Interesting. So, are these actually practical upgrades for our CRDs? :?:

x2, but I would be inclined to think that your CRD needs the shorter gears (numerically higher) b/c it is hauling around a lot more WEIGHT with the accessories you mentioned.

Steel bumpers are awesome, and I want one very much... But believe firmly that it will hurt my MPG a lot.

edit: I just had an interesting idea: If numerically higher gears are better for mileage, why are so many car makers putting larger and larger rims / tires on their cars? 18" rims on the new Jetta TDI for example. For us, getting a higher gear number would mean changing out the 16" rims and 30" diameter 215/85 tires for maybe 15" rims and a 235/40 rubber-band tire size.

Granted, the Jeep would sit a lot lower and look like a goofy low-rider... But would the mileage go up from spinning the engine so much faster? Logic still says no.

You pay for plug and play. No solder required and reversible for dealer visits, I guess.

ordered one last week, hopefully be here this week.

only question I do have is this. the transgo kit comes with a resistor, and some people don't like the way it shifts, and eventually the TCM brings the shifting back to something it's happy with. Will the TCM not do the same thing with this part?

i'll take a few pics, and post a what I think of the thing once it's in and I've driven it for a week or so.

Isn't this just a $50 resistor? Pretty sure this is the same mod as the resistor mod. Am I wrong? Has anyone opened one up?
