The OEM disc did not have springs in the disc due to the dual-mass flywheel. If you're using a solid flywheel, you need to have springs in the discs - the weight of the flywheel doesn't matter, the high-compression 4-cyl diesel torsionals will eat up those OEM transmissions in a heartbeat since they're not designed for the impact loading on gears and bearings that the torsionals will transmit.

There is limited room in the back of the crank for the pilot bushing, on the DMF the roller pilot bearing is in the flywheel.

Just some food for thought...

It's a twin disc, they work a little different than the single discs. It will chatter a little but I'm not worried about it.

Correction on the clutch discs, one disc is solid and the outer is sprung. It's been a week since I last installed one. I'm forgetful at times. :?

Yes, I can. It isn't something I do on a regular basis though on a CRD. Mine is due for a timing belt in another 20K, so before summer most likely. I do mine every 50K just because I blew one off my SVT Focus at like 65K and crashed the head. I wasn't happy about that so that is when I decided on 50K intervals for my personal daily drivers and 10K for anything that I compete with.

When I rebuilt the top end of my CRD I sent everything out to be cleaned, the head was also freshened up and went back together with ARP head studs that I had to specifically spec out to ARP. The ARP studs are probably the only reason the head didn't blow sky high off the block when the Jeep was pushing 40 psi for a few weeks. The hot and cold sides of the turbo are ceramic coated. I also machined the exhaust manifold for the the egt sensor, smoothed it out and had it ceramic coated. I am not running a heat shield on my the manifold now and have not had any problems. My intake is still a work in progress but I think I would rather have a snorkel on it seeing that most of the places I end up in NH with friends happen to have many water crossings.

Before anyone jumps on me about my maintenance or that I overkill some of this stuff, let just say that anything I own gets used to it's max potential so therefore I go out of my way to fix them as soon as they break and do a good deal of preventative maintenance. Oh, and the only reason I rebuilt the top end of the crd is because it was beyond clogged and it drove me nuts knowing it was like that.

Some pictures of the top end rebuild, or your engine bay now would be cool, (not to clutter this thread with OT).

Working out the details about the parts. He was working on building an LSx powered Wrangler to be closer to what he does in the shop, so that customers would be able to see the skill of building the jeep with the different drivetrain and the tuning that they do there.

His wrangler is about done and ran low on money, so this came up and I made him an offer to buy it.

Working on getting the turbo squared away, and then the tranny is next on the chopblock, either Manual or build the auto to the hilt.
