They must have had a bad batch, on the TDI's we had to use a fish tank filter on the boost line to get
rid of the buzzing, there are two models of the lunar one is the 35 lbs only, that is the one I had trouble
with, and the other is a vacuum boost combo that I have never had trouble with.

The vac/boost combo was exactly the unit I am currently hemming/hawing about. I'd rather have the electric gauges (for simplicity into the cabin and less mech lines running everywhere) but we never make vacuum, right? I could still put the combo in though, couldn't I?

And I tought I was the only one to find LoTek (Gaugepods.com) who makes a Liberty pod. I have asked them to quote me a custom pod that adds a modified third pod for lighting switches. I will be sure to take some pictures when that all gets done (in the next month, hopefully).

No word yet. I have their phone and will be calling today to followup on my request. I didn't give them specifics, and I may implied that more would follow so they could quote me. I will report my findings here.

Ripster,

Looking at the Autometer site and with my own notes on gauges I am considering, I believe you installed the mechanical boost (0-35 psi).

I haven't seen the back of any gauges and was wondering how much room there is for the tubing? Is it an easy fit behind the pod?

I would hate to create my own problem with a leaker due to excesive bending and cramming (especially when it would be leaking right in front of my face so I could hear it and be doubly irritated).

UPDATE for 0311_DoC - No word yet on the custom quote, made my call too late.

The Liberator clearly has a three gauge pod in it from the pics. Who makes the pod? Who would know where I could get it? It is from Gale Banks-- the gauges and other engine mods are. Would like those too... :D

There is a bit of room once you remove the handle, I used the remaining holes in the original cover to route the wires behind and
through. Then as you bring the pod to the pillar, I pulled on the tubing to bring the extra back into the piller and under the lower dash.
Mine is slack and I can pull on it and push it back, so no leaks, used a very small amount of pipe sealer on the threads. I would think
that most gauges would have a bit of room behind, I tightened them before pushing them all the way in the pod, so I would not have
to fit tools in the gauge.

On my pod installation I didn't use the original post cover. I used longer screws and screwed the plastic pod cover right to the metal A post. This left me with plenty of room for wires and boost gauge tubing. And like Ripster I pulled the extra under the lower dash so there were no kinks in the tubing. :)

Sorry, I forgot to folllowup in this thread. I have contected LoTek and they tell me a custom pillar pod will cost $1200. Meaning if 30 people bought the first run, at $44 including the paint match, it would be worth doing.

I started a poll here to gauge interest (pun intended!).

Ripster -

What size wrench are the bolts holding the handle on? I have tried a 5mm (too small), 3/16 (too small), and a 6mm (too big). This leaves a 1/4 but that seems just too big, considering the handle is limited to 3/8 max diameter recess.

Thanks, because my stuff should be getting here sometime in the next few days and I am hoping to be installing the cabin gear over the July 8 weekend.

I believe it is a 7/32 and it is a long snout small socket or you will not get down to the bolt,
a regular size will not reach, you will probably need one longer than you have, unless your
tool selection is better than mine and that would not take much. The socket is still attached
to my 1/4 inch drive is why I believe that is the one.

Thanks guys. I am not in possession of Spicoli's TV-repairman-dad's "AWESOME tool set" and don't have a 7/23" (let alone a deep) but I am in possession of a Sears nearby. I am off tomorrow on som errands anyways, this will be my first stop.

Hi!! I have a question to those who had purchased a boost and/or EGT gauge. How much did you pay and what brand did you buy? I have priced out the EGT and boost gauges but could only get a few prices. The gauges that I priced were by Autometer Lunar Series.

Boost: $115
EGT: $201

If you could please state what all of you have paid.
Thanks

I bought my gauges from egauges.com The boost gauge was $63.21 and the EGT gauge was $160.50 both in the Colbalt Series. The gauges are not equal in illumination but Auto Meter is working on it. Which reminds me - I should call and yell at them tomorrow. Hope this helps.

Not into shoppin, see it like it buy it
Autometer Lunar series, like them, had to get three of
the boost before they matched in light intensity.

Thanks for the reference to egauges.com. I couldn't believe how much cheaper they are/were  since I just purchased from them now. I can't wait to install them. I'm like a kid in TOY R US! Thanks again.

Those price differences ($99 and $60 for Boost and $200 vs $160 for EGT) might be related to an electric Boost gauge vs a simple mechanical (tubing into cabin vs 4-20mvolt wire) and the EGT coming with the probe vs without. The devil is in the details, as they say...
________________________________
It's unrelated to this thread but I am expecting to get my CRD back tomorrow with a brand-spankin'-new EGR Flow Control Valve! They had it long enough and the Tech monkeyed with it long enough to make it cough up a new code (besides the P0401 Low Flow EGR) that let him replace the Flow Control Valve (aka, Throttle Body). Halleluha!

And when I get it back, it will be with freshly plumbed and wired Boost and EGT on the pillar (and a few other things of lesser interest). Ripster does his own work and was finished first, I was able to confirm that my research was sound when I saw his install. Looking forward to the new gauges and my Jeep back with no more CEL!!!

Tom,

Are you planning to take the bull by its horns and go at it or have someone else do it?

Ripster, I would like to see ur EGT connection if you don't mind.

I believe the bull has already been tamed, by the friendly Tech at Adams Jeep. I have been treated exceedingly well by them, despite the 2+ months I have been out of my CRD (delivered Halloween day just last year). they have kept me in a vehicle through all the EGR and Trans warranty issues. I have even had ProLincGraphix (free plug 'cuz they do great work) make a decal that I will apply to my CRD tomorrow. That would be the first dealer decal I have ever had on a vehicle, and I have been driving for over 20 years! They have earned it.

I fooled with the pillar and interior gages (to a point) and he installed the temp senders and boost penetrations, and all the firewall routing, etc.

I am putting (huh, having someone else put) Boost and EGT on the pillar and Engine Oil Temp, Trans Oil Temp and Volt in individual gauge cups above the rearview. The overhead are proving troublesome and I may have to return for the final install as I need the Jeep for a Scout trip, but it is all coming together nicely (I hope to see it tomorrow!).
