Aw crud, here I spent the last 12 years trying to forget all that nuke crap they crammed down my throat for 20 years in the Navy, and someone drags out heat transfer and fluid flow equations!!

I might have to start remembering that stuff though - got an offer tonight to set up an interview for getting on with a civilian nuke plant in Fla. Surprised the heck outta me - figured at 50 I was too old for them to even consider - guess with the way they downsized the Navy in the last decade, the supply of ex-Navy Nucs is getting kind of slim.

retmil46: Don't discount your past training or experience, the company I work for has not hired any one under 50 for Field Service. Just don't let the Witches, Warlocks, and Oxygen Thieves in HR get you down. You will be amazed how many times you will solve problems that baffle the engineers.

Good Luck, and don't be afraid to jump ship at Freightliner.

Not much choice on that one - ship's already going down and we were told 2 weeks ago we'd be out the door March 13th. Given all the signs, pretty obvious it'll be on the order of years, if ever, before that plant employs more than a few hundred people again - my money is it'll be completely shut down sometime next year. But just like the Titanic, there are those still insisting the ship is unsinkable and we'll be back at work before the end of the year. I truly feel sorry for that group - they're going to have a rude awakening and some tough times ahead.
