Don't the new Euro regs also change the fuel qualities too? I thought I read somewhere that since their regs were changing again, that was why the oil industry would soon have a glut of diesel on our side that they couldn't sell over there anymore.

The European fuel regs are generally 50 cetane with 15ppm sulfur limit. Here in the US now, sulfur limits are now the same (15ppm) but here the cetane is lower at, generally, 40.

The exception I've found here in the US (so far) is BP Premier Diesel that is 50 cetane, 15ppm fuel.

If I could find even a single station that actually had a cetane sticker on the pump like every single gasoline nozzle does for octane... I would never buy from another station. But nobody I have found actually wants to admit knowledge of their fuel's ratings. Probably because it is an "average" of 40. There have been some tanks that I coulda sworn were 50% water. (Or something else non-burnable) I haven't been stranded by any bought fuel, but the CRD hasn't liked the taste of some of it here and there.

Geordi sorry to hear about your troubles.

Can someone make sure I'm vaguely following this 3 thread saga right. Geordi's turbo blew up probably due to previous EGT damage. Then after the turbo was replaced further engine damage was discovered. Then after another member sold a spare motor the current issues came to the surface.

Anyways, I'm not worried about the reliability of our VM engines. But from this thread it sounds like specific tools are needed to perform the timing belt replacement maintenance??
