Running the CCV in any case is just gonna spit out oily mist into the intake still, while it make not sludge up with soot its still gonna wear on the rubber inlet hose and boost hoses.

Two things to remember about the CCV / EGR system and Keith's tunes:

1: He is selling an admittedly "on-road" tune, and as such, has to ensure he stays on the legal side of the EPA with regard to emission devices and advice. This is not a bad thing, we all wish him the best of success, and his tune does amazing things for improving the lifespan and performance of the engine without risking his emissions standing by killing the system entirely.

2: "mostly dead" is still slightly alive. You have to decide for yourself how alive you are willing to allow that system to be.

Look at my signature for my own feelings on the subject, and look around for the alphabet acronyms if you want to join me in the super-clean intake squad. Elephants and SEGRs are the way to happy intakes.

Oil mist will eventually destroy the intake hose from the airbox, and that is a $55 dealer-only item. Also, oil will coat the inside of the entire intake system, it WILL NOT wash away any existing sludge. Think about something with the consistency of toothpaste. Cleaning it completely requires pulling the top of the engine off, and (last time I did it on my VW Jetta TDI) soaking the entire intake in a bucket of diesel fuel for 2 days. That dissolved the mess, clean as a whistle. Have I done that with my CRD? No. I also don't think it needs it, b/c I bought my SEGR before I even bought the CRD! 30k miles was all it ever had the factory EGR, and in that time, it ate 2 of them according to the records. The one that is on there now... Is just taking up space.
